Summary

This PR moves CodeEntropy onto the shared CCPBioSim configuration in CCPBioSim/.github, instead of maintaining local copies of the Renovate config, community-health files and CI and release workflows. Shared updates then arrive through Renovate, and the same files stop drifting across repositories.

Changes

Renovate configuration:

  • .github/renovate.json now extends the shared renovate/default and renovate/python presets. The reviewers stay local.
  • The rule groups, schedule and release-age policy are the same as before. Python dependency PRs now also carry the dependencies label.

Community-health files:

  • Removed the local issue templates, pull request template, CONTRIBUTING.md and CODE_OF_CONDUCT.md, so the organisation defaults apply. The code of conduct was identical to the org copy.
  • The org bug report has an optional "Configuration or input files" section, which replaces the old YAML and CLI prompts.

CI and scheduled workflows:

  • pr.yaml, daily.yaml, weekly-docs.yaml, dependency-floors.yaml, coveralls-main.yaml and the license-year workflow are now short callers of the shared workflows, pinned to release 0.4.0.
  • In pr.yaml, the unit tests and coverage run in the shared test workflow, the lowest-dependency check is its own job, and docs and pre-commit call the shared workflows. The regression jobs stay local.
  • Workflow file names, display names, triggers and schedules are unchanged, so the README badges keep working.
  • Updated the dependency-policy paragraph in docs/developer_guide.rst to name the lowest-dependencies job.

Release workflow:

  • release.yaml shrinks from about 300 lines to 75: four jobs that call the shared prepare, website, PyPI and conda workflows, pinned to release 0.4.0.
  • It does the same things as before: version check, version-bump PR, tag, GitHub release, Zulip announcement, website notification, PyPI and conda publishing.
  • Added an optional dry-run input. .github/web-meta.yaml, the conda recipe and CITATION.cff are unchanged.

Impact

  • CI coverage is the same. The lowest-dependency check now runs as a separate job per OS and Python version, and the PR docs artifact is uploaded only on failure.
  • New issues and pull requests use the organisation templates.
  • No changes to the package code, the regression tests or the conda recipe.

This looks fantastic. I can't immediately see anything that is off with the PR, the code looks pretty much as it was before across all the repos, just very much more streamlined. So I think it is just a case of bringing it into the main line and fixing any spot (if any) breaks and then roll out to the other SW. Please go ahead and merge this glorious iteration of the CI.
