These pages hold what we currently understand about the parts of Underworld3 that are still moving: the methods we are building, what the benchmarks say, which experiments would settle the open questions, and what we tried that did not work. They are rewritten in place as the understanding changes; the History list at the foot of each page says what changed and why.
They are not the documentation. docs/ in the repository says how to use what works, at a version, and goes through review. A finding moves from here to there when it has stopped moving. The argument itself happens in Discussions; the task list is the Underworld roadmap Project. The protocol for all three is in docs/developer/guides/planning-on-github.md.
- Viscoelastic Constitutive models — the viscoelastic library, FENE-P and its record, the integrator.
- Transport histories — the semi-Lagrangian flavours and the Eulerian path; which to use where.
- Particle-to-field projection — reading scattered values back onto a field; the regularisations and their failures.
- Solvers and multigrid — making the nonlinear solves converge; how they fail.
- Benchmarks — the index by family; one page per benchmark type (viscoelastic: steady shear, Waters–King, confined cylinder, cross-slot, creeping confined cylinder; viscoplastic: the Spiegelman notch).
- Cylinder campaign 2026 — what we ran on the confined cylinder and what came out; the lessons live on the topic pages.
- Spiegelman notch campaign 2026 — the viscoplastic notch: what we ran from the δ homotopies to the onset ladders and FAS, what converged, what to discount; the solver lessons are on Solvers and multigrid.
- How we plan — Project, Discussions, wiki, issues; how a session or a person adds to them.
A campaign page is a log while the campaign runs and for a while after; it is retired when its results have either been discounted or recorded on topic pages. A topic page graduates to docs/ once its content has stopped moving, and is retired when there is little left to add. Retired pages move under a Retired heading here with their last History line, not deleted: the dead ends they record are still worth finding.
Clone https://github.com/underworldcode/underworld3.wiki.git, edit the page, add a dated line to its History, commit, push. Write in our voice: what we tried, why, what happened, what we do now. Keep the dead ends; they are the part a polished document deletes and a transcript buries.
