The Project bin now knows each file's details and helps find, group and track footage.

Metadata. Every file in media/ and library/ is read with ffprobe (GET/POST /api/media-info, media-probe.js): frame rate, video and audio codec, audio channels, sample rate, bitrate and size are saved on the media entry. Without ffprobe only the size is filled in. fablecut_import_media probes the file as it imports it.

In the bin

  • Search: name, kind, extension, codec, resolution (2160p, 3840x2160) or a tag; #tag matches tags only; Esc clears.
  • Show: favorites, used / unused, a kind, a collection, a tag. Results list flat with a count and Clear.
  • Sort by name (natural order), kind, duration, resolution, frame rate, codec, audio, size or times used; ↑ / ↓.
  • ☰ list view with metadata columns; click a heading to sort. Columns drop out as the bin narrows.
  • ☆ favorites, tags, and collections (a file can be in several).
  • A uses badge on each file, and Find timeline instances (main timeline and comps, click to jump there, opening the comp).
  • Right-click a clip → Reveal in project.
  • Media info… shows everything known about a file.

Agents: patch ops updateMedia (name, favorite, tags, folder), setCollection, removeCollection. The compact view lists each file's metadata, ★, tags, folder and uses:N, plus the collections.

media-lib.js holds the shared logic (probe parsing, search, sort, usage), used by the editor, the server and the patch ops. Docs: new page /docs/media/.

Checked

  • npm test and release-check.js pass; new tests in test/media-lib.test.js and test/rest-api.test.js.
  • Headless browser click-through: search, filters, list view, tags via the menu, collections, find instances, reveal, save round-trip.
  • MCP stdio session: the new ops, including a refused metadata edit (nothing saved).

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • The Project bin displays media metadata, including duration, resolution, frame rate, codecs, audio channels, and file size.
    • Search, filter, and sort media; switch between thumbnail and metadata-list views; and organize files with favorites, tags, and collections.
    • Check file usage, find timeline instances, and reveal source files for clips in the Project bin.
    • Compact project views include media details, tags, favorites, usage counts, and collections.
  • Documentation
    • Added a Media management guide covering Project bin features and agent media-management actions.

… collections, usage

Each file's frame rate, codecs, audio channels, sample rate, bitrate and size
are read with ffprobe (GET/POST /api/media-info, media-probe.js) and saved on
the media entry; fablecut_import_media fills them in as it imports.

The Project tab gets search (name, kind, codec, resolution, #tag), a Show
filter (favorites, used / unused, kind, tag, collection), sorting by any
detail or by times used, and a list view with metadata columns that drop
out as the bin narrows. Files can be starred, tagged and grouped into
collections. Find timeline instances lists every placement (comps too) and
jumps there; Reveal in project goes from a clip to its file.

media-lib.js holds the shared logic (probe parsing, search, sort, usage).
Agents: patch ops updateMedia, setCollection, removeCollection; the compact
view shows metadata, favorites, tags, usage and collections.

📝 Walkthrough

The Project bin now displays and organizes media metadata, supports search, filtering, sorting, favorites, tags, and collections, and provides media-use navigation and project reveal actions. Server endpoints and agent operations expose metadata and collection management. Documentation and tests cover these additions.

Changes: Media management

Layer / File(s) Summary
Metadata probing and query utilities
media-lib.js, media-probe.js, server.js, mcp-server.js, app.js, docs/demo/media-lib.js, test/media-lib.test.js, test/rest-api.test.js
Adds media metadata parsing, formatting, search, filtering, sorting, placement counts, cached file probing, and single or batch media-info endpoints. Media imports and Project-bin refreshes use probe results. Tests cover probe parsing, query behavior, and API results.
Project media and collection state
project-ops.js, app.js, docs/demo/app.js, test/media-lib.test.js
Adds patch operations for media updates and collection management. Project normalization and serialization handle metadata, tags, favorites, and collections. Compact media output includes descriptions, usage counts, and collection details.
Project-bin search, filters, and views
app.js, index.html, style.css, docs/demo/app.js, docs/demo/index.html, docs/demo/style.css, docs/demo/sync.js
Adds bin search, filters, sorting, persisted view preferences, flat search results, metadata columns, and thumbnail and list layouts. The demo includes matching controls and styling.
Media actions and navigation
app.js, docs/demo/app.js, style.css, docs/demo/style.css
Adds media context actions for favorites, tags, collections, details, and removal. Placement lists navigate to timeline uses; clip actions reveal media or compositions in the Project bin.
Documentation and references
CLAUDE.md, docs/docs/*, docs/index.html, docs/llms.txt, docs/sitemap.xml, README.md, CHANGELOG.md, skills/edit-video/SKILL.md, docs/docs/build.js
Documents the media schema, Project-bin features, agent operations, and media-info endpoints. Adds the Media management page and links from documentation navigation and site indexes.

when called while mediaInfoBusy is true, rather than dropping the request. In
its finally block, clear the busy flag and, if a refresh is pending, clear that
flag and call refreshMediaInfo() without a list so it rechecks all media still
missing size metadata.

Review comments at @docs/demo/app.js:
- Around line 2257-2262: Update refreshMediaInfo so requests received while
mediaInfoBusy is true are queued instead of discarded, then drain the queued
entries in its finally block after the current lookup completes. Keep the
existing connection check and filtering behavior.

Review comments at @media-lib.js:
- Around line 137-176: Update placements() to group all clips by linked
placement before filtering for mediaId, then represent each matching group with
its video clip when available. Update usageCounts() to collect distinct media
IDs per linked group and increment each ID once per group, preserving separate
scans for the main timeline and each composition.

Review comments at @media-probe.js:
- Around line 33-39: Make probeFile asynchronous and replace its blocking
spawnSync ffprobe invocation with a promise-based execFile or spawn call,
preserving the timeout and stat fallback. Update the server.js and mcp-server.js
callers to await probeFile, and limit concurrent probes in the media-info
handler.

Review comments at @skills/edit-video/SKILL.md:
- Around line 44-47: Update the metadata guidance for fablecut_import_media and
compact-view MEDIA lines to tell agents to verify each metadata field before
relying on it; explain that when ffprobe is unavailable, the file probe provides
only size, consistent with the existing fallback description in CLAUDE.md.
