File repositories gain a sha256sums option that publishes SHA256SUMS files alongside the content, in the format read by sha256sum -c. It is disabled by default. 'root' writes a single file at the root of the repository, and 'directory' writes one in every directory; each file lists every file below it by its path relative to itself, so a nested directory can be verified on its own and a deleted one is still detected by its parent. Publications accept the same option and fall back to the repository's setting when it is omitted, so autopublish and explicit publishes behave alike.
