Which user-facing changes does this PR introduce?

[CHANGE] api: CORS is now disabled by default. Previously `/api/v2` allowed every origin. Browser clients served from another origin must be allowed with `--web.cors.origin`.
[FEATURE] api: Add `--web.cors.origin`, a fully anchored regex of origins allowed to call the API from a browser. Cross-origin `DELETE` requests are now allowed, so browser clients can expire silences.

📝 Walkthrough

Alertmanager now accepts a CORS origin pattern, creates a handler from it, and applies that handler to API v2 and Connect web requests. End-to-end tests cover enabled, disabled, and route-prefixed configurations.

Changes: CORS configuration and handling

Layer / File(s) Summary
Origin configuration and handler creation
cmd/alertmanager/main.go, api/api.go, go.mod, Procfile
The CLI adds --web.cors.origin and passes the resulting handler to the app. NewCORSHandler accepts an empty origin or compiles a fully anchored regex; it returns an error for an invalid pattern. The handler configures allowed methods, request headers, exposed Connect headers, and preflight max age. The a1 Procfile command sets a localhost origin pattern.
Apply CORS to API web handlers
app/options.go, app/app.go, api/api.go, api/v2/api.go
App and API options carry the CORS handler. API registration applies it to the v2 and Connect web handlers. The v2 server no longer applies rs/cors default middleware.
Exercise CORS configurations
test/e2e/harness_test.go, test/e2e/cors_test.go
The test harness accepts app-option callbacks. End-to-end tests check allowed and disallowed origins for enabled, disabled, and route-prefixed instances.

The changed CORS default may conflict with published guidance for upgrading browser clients. The DELETE behavior works in the current configuration, but the new test does not protect it against regression. These are bounded follow-ups rather than evidence of a current request failure.

Full details: Description check

Explanation

The description includes the issue references, feature and bugfix test confirmations, breaking-change note, sign-off status, contribution confirmation, and release notes. It does not confirm documentation updates, and it omits some checklist details such as performance and breaking-change sub-items, but it is mostly complete and relevant.

Full details: Linked Issues check

Explanation

For #5455, the implementation adds --web.cors.origin, disables CORS when the value is empty, anchors the origin pattern, rejects invalid patterns at startup, and applies the handler to API v2 and Connect routes. test/e2e/cors_test.go covers allowed, disallowed, disabled, and prefixed-route cases. The issue also requests documentation and a v3 policy decision. Those are non-coding or maintenance decisions, so they do not fail this coding assessment. The supplied linked-issue data does not include requirements for #3165.

Full details: Out of Scope Changes check

Explanation

The changed application wiring, CORS dependency, API integration, command-line flag, test harness support, end-to-end tests, and local test configuration all support the CORS behavior described by #5455. The supplied whole-pull-request summary shows no unrelated change. go.sum is excluded from review, but no scope conclusion depends on that file.

Add a DELETE preflight case.

The test sends only POST preflights. A DELETE-only regression can pass while browser clients cannot expire silences through the v2 API. Add a DELETE case and preserve the existing POST checks.

Update the CORS migration guidance.

When operators leave --web.cors.origin unset, browser clients that relied on the previous wildcard default can no longer read API responses. The published Prometheus security model still says /api/v2 sends Access-Control-Allow-Origin: * by default. Update doc/https.md and proxy guidance to explain the new default and show how to configure an origin. Coordinate a correction to the security model. (prometheus.io)

Based on PR objectives, issue #5455 requests doc/https.md and proxy guidance.

connectcors.ExposedHeaders() is tiny. maybe we could just define the helper locally instead of adding an external dependency

I think it is fine, we probably need this for the new API as well.

CORS headers are only sent for origins matching the fully anchored
regex. The flag is empty by default, which disables CORS. Previously
every origin was allowed.

This is a breaking change. Users must now explicitely into CORS.

Cover DELETE in the silence preflight.

api.NewCORSHandler declares DELETE, but this test sends POST and checks only the origin. A regression that removes DELETE from AllowedMethods would still pass. Send a DELETE preflight for the enabled /api/v2/silences cases and assert that Access-Control-Allow-Methods contains DELETE.
