Update to NewPipe 0.28.8 (with Extractor v0.26.3) #344
Description
Activity
@MrCamel999 : if you check the commits page on here, the last code-update was on March 9th, about 11 weeks ago now, so it's not too-certain the developer will update this app soon. 😢
Until then, anyone reading this should be advised that using "Fast Mode" as a workaround should make most new videos appear in the Subscriptions > All feed, though the durations of each won't be shown. To enable this, tap the (?) icon in the top-right when looking at the video feed, then tap "Enable Fast Mode".
Do also note two other issues remain unsolved in Tubular as of now:
- "Could not parse website" appearing on every YouTube video you tap on = this was fixed in NewPipe 0.28.5; but the last Tubular update was based on NewPipe version 0.28.4, so Tubular hasn't added the same fix yet
- Some videos only allow 360p quality = I believe the NewPipe team are still looking into this; it's an extractor issue. If they sort it, this issue should hopefully just "go away" for Tubular too, even if the app remains not-updated
Reacted by Lucas@dftf-stu I'm perfectly aware of the last commit date. But look at the last version released, v0.28.4. Now let's take a look at NewPipe v0.28.5 and v0.28.6. Neither of these gave major feature improvements. Yes, .5 had the import/export subscription thing and other small changes, but nothing as urgent as what prompted v0.28.7. .6's change was literally a popup addition. There simply wasn't a need to update at those times, I feel like opening this issue wasn't a bad move.
Yes those two other issues exist, but should be noted under a different issue to track them.
Reacted by cristian64, Brieuc Dubois, November and Hub-O-Gits@MrCamel999 : NewPipe 0.28.5's biggest change was resolving the "Could not parse website" error on every video. Sure, in Tubular 0.28.4 you can simply ignore it, but it's a pity the developer wasn't active for long-enough for 0.28.5 to get merged.
I have no issue with you opening a ticket requesting an update; never said so. I was simply offering advice for anyone who comes on here looking to make a report, and clicks on your one as it's currently the newest, that "Fast Mode" at-least offers somewhat of a workaround until such-time the developer may return and update Tubular.
Obviously tickets 343 (update to 0.28.6) and 338 (update to 0.28.5) are both now superseded by yours and would make-sense to close; but I'm not an admin here, just another user, so 🤷🏻♂️. I think @asandikci is some sort of admin here (as they've closed tickets in the past), but also hasn't been active on here for at-least a month. At what point could we say Tubular seems largely abandoned...?

Signatures doesn't match with original one, so, it need reinstall the tubular. maybe change the package name to something (just like PipeBender)
Reacted by johanw666@DevuboxLinux Yes, I am not a maintainer and sign the builds with my own keys. Wich is expected since it is my repository. I am waiting on the maintainers response to my PR on the Tubular Extractor.
Reacted by hiutrun-dangdang, Shallrath, Lucas, Georg912, November and sam-161@feuerswut I'll jump to your repo, but if I uninstall Tubular and install your version, don't I lose all of my settings and configurations? That's what I'd like to avoid.
@chaotic-illusions That's what the import/export buttons in the settings are for
Reacted by chaotic-illusions and LucasReacted by DJCrashdummy and Lucas@MrCamel999 Ugh. I'm dumb, thanks. It's been a day and my brain is mush. I'll give it a go and swap over! Thanks.
Newpipe is on 0.28.8 now. @feuerswut will you adapt your version?
Reacted by Lucas@MrCamel999 : can you change the title to "Update to NewPipe 0.28.8 (with Extractor v0.26.3)", if that's possible, as-per the update the NewPipe team have just put-out?
- changed the title

Because this fork isn't updated yet
Additional information
I'm aware this issue is probably already being worked on, just didn't see an open issue for it yet. I saw someone trying to get an update to v0.28.6 to fix the broken functionality, which wouldn't have solved their issue, so I presume some people would benefit from being able to see an open issue just to track what version would fix their issues.
