Post migration config for partitioned tables. Depends on #3907

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes

    • Improved release-specific filtering across job runs, test results, pull requests, build-cluster reports, and health metrics.
    • Prevented records from one release being incorrectly updated, counted, or displayed with another.
    • Improved handling of partitioned job-run data and reduced stale or mismatched results.
  • Enhancements

    • Cluster autocomplete now defaults to the active release and recent data.
    • Build-cluster health and analysis views support selecting a release.

Pipeline controller notification
This repo is configured to use the pipeline controller. Second-stage tests will be triggered either automatically or after lgtm label is added, depending on the repository configuration. The pipeline controller will automatically detect which contexts are required and will utilize /test Prow commands to trigger the second stage.

For optional jobs, comment /test ? to see a list of all defined jobs. To trigger manually all jobs from second stage use /pipeline required command.

This repository is configured in: automatic mode

Skipping CI for Draft Pull Request.
If you want CI signal for your change, please convert it to an actual PR.
You can still manually trigger a test run with /test all

Check name Status Explanation Resolution
Docstring Coverage ⚠️ Warning Docstring coverage is 20.00% which is insufficient. The required threshold is 80.00%. Write docstrings for the functions missing them to satisfy the coverage threshold.
Go Error Handling ⚠️ Warning The PR adds unwrapped database errors in LookupProwJobRunPartitionKeys (res.Error), ProwJobRunCount (err), and refreshBuildClusterMetrics (err). Wrap each propagated error with operation context, for example fmt.Errorf("counting ProwJobRun rows: %w", err), while preserving errors.Is behavior.
Test Coverage For New Features ⚠️ Warning The PR adds CurrentActiveRelease, GetLastUpdateTime, LookupProwJobRunPartitionKeys, and backfill command functions, but repository searches found no corresponding *_test.go coverage. Add unit tests for each new function, including release-selection, partition-key lookup, timestamp filtering, and backfill command behavior; add cross-release regression tests for changed queries.
No-Weak-Crypto ❓ Inconclusive The working tree contains no git diff, so changed-code evidence is unavailable for the weak-crypto check. Provide the pull-request diff or base revision so the changed code can be checked for weak cryptography and secret comparisons.

Linked Issues check ✅ Passed Check skipped because no linked issues were found for this pull request.
Out of Scope Changes check ✅ Passed Check skipped because no linked issues were found for this pull request.
Sql Injection Prevention ✅ Passed New release, search, ID, and timestamp inputs use GORM/SQL placeholders; the existing date_trunc period interpolation is unchanged from origin/main.
Excessive Css In React Should Use Styles ✅ Passed The pull request changes only Go, SQL, documentation, and test files; it introduces no React components or inline CSS.
Single Responsibility And Clear Naming ✅ Passed The diff adds focused names such as CurrentActiveRelease and ProwJobRunCount; validation types have two fields, and no generic package, struct, or method responsibility is introduced.
Feature Documentation ✅ Passed No explicit failure condition exists: feature documentation updates are strongly encouraged but not required. The PR adds a plan document, and existing feature docs cover related job-run and releas...
Stable And Deterministic Test Names ✅ Passed The PR adds no Ginkgo title calls. New Go subtests use fixed query-case names, and changed test names are static; no dynamic pod, timestamp, UUID, node, namespace, or IP values appear in titles.
Test Structure And Quality ✅ Passed The changed tests use Go testing and testify, not Ginkgo; no Ginkgo imports or constructs exist in the changed files or repository.
Microshift Test Compatibility ✅ Passed The PR adds or changes only standard Go tests; the diff contains no Ginkgo e2e constructs such as Describe, Context, When, or It.
Single Node Openshift (Sno) Test Compatibility ✅ Passed The PR adds no Ginkgo e2e tests. Changed tests use standard Go testing in integration or database validation packages, so SNO multi-node compatibility rules do not apply.
Topology-Aware Scheduling Compatibility ✅ Passed The diff against origin/main changes database, API, migration, and test code only; it adds no deployment manifests, controllers, or scheduling constraints.
Ote Binary Stdout Contract ✅ Passed The PR adds no OTE/Ginkgo process-level setup or stdout writes. New logging uses standard/logrus defaults, which write to stderr; changed output logs are inside test query functions.
Ipv6 And Disconnected Network Test Compatibility ✅ Passed The aggregate diff adds no e2e test files or Ginkgo declarations; changed tests use standard Go testing and add no IPv4 or external-connectivity requirement.
Container-Privileges ✅ Passed The main..HEAD diff adds no privileged, hostPID/Network/IPC, SYS_ADMIN, or allowPrivilegeEscalation settings; changed YAML files contain only application and job data.
No-Sensitive-Data-In-Logs ✅ Passed The diff adds logs for release IDs, counts, timestamps, test metadata, and wrapped database errors; it adds no passwords, tokens, API keys, PII, session IDs, hostnames, or customer records.

Update the plan to the final function names.

The implementation uses getQueryCases, getReportQueryCases, and getIndividualQueryCases. The plan names getBenchmarkCases and getIndividualBenchmarkCases, and describes a getValidationCases(asOf) function that does not exist. The implemented entry point is allQueryCases() in pkg/flags/postgres_validation_test.go. Align the plan text with the merged code so future readers can follow it.

Compare the golden-file release with benchmarkRelease.

The validation cases always query benchmarkRelease. The golden file stores the release used at generation time in gf.Metadata.Release. If the constant changes between the generate run and the validate run, every comparison uses a different release and the results are not meaningful. Fail early when the two values differ.

Detect duplicate case names.

gf.Results is keyed by case name. If two cases share a name, the generate run silently keeps only the last snapshot and the validate run compares that case once. Add a duplicate-name check in allQueryCases, or assert len(cases) == len(gf.Results) after generation.

Remove one of the two identical test-analysis cases.

TestAnalysisPassRate runs query.QueryTestAnalysis with the same arguments as the QueryTestAnalysis case at Lines 306-327. asOf.Add(-24*14*time.Hour) and asOf.Add(-14*24*time.Hour) are the same duration. Fail the case when the test row is missing.

Scan(&testID) leaves testID at 0 when no row matches benchmarkTestName. The case then runs the join with test_id = 0, returns an empty snapshot, and the golden comparison passes on both databases without validating anything. JobRunTestCount already returns an explicit error for the missing-row case at Line 553. Use the same pattern here.

An unresolved release becomes an empty-string filter. query.CurrentActiveRelease returns ("", nil) when release_definitions contains no matching row. Every new call site uses the returned value directly in a prow_job_release = ? predicate, so the query matches no rows and each caller reports success with empty results. Validate the resolved release at each call site.

  • pkg/api/job_runs.go#L57-L63: return an error when the resolved release is empty, before it reaches the filters on lines 96-97.
  • pkg/api/autocomplete.go#L80-L92: on lookup failure or an empty result, either return an error response or omit the prow_job_release predicate instead of filtering on "".
  • pkg/api/tests.go#L415-L421: return an error when the resolved release is empty, so jobRunsCount is never reported as 0 for a missing release.

Add a tiebreaker to the job-run selection.

The query orders only by prow_job_runs.timestamp DESC and takes one row. If two runs of the job share the same timestamp, PostgreSQL can return either row, and the two databases can return different rows. JobRunTestCount then reports a different count and the golden comparison fails without a real regression. Add prow_job_runs.id as a secondary sort key.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Check the environment variable before you clean the path.

filepath.Clean maps both an unset variable and inputs like "./" or "." to ".". The test then reports that golden_file_path is required, which is wrong for a set value. Read the variable, check it for the empty string, then clean it.

🔧 Proposed fix (apply at both sites)
-	goldenPath := filepath.Clean(os.Getenv("golden_file_path"))
-	if goldenPath == "." {
+	goldenPath := os.Getenv("golden_file_path")
+	if goldenPath == "" {
 		t.Fatal("golden_file_path env var is required")
 	}
+	goldenPath = filepath.Clean(goldenPath)

📐 Maintainability & Code Quality | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Add tests for all lookup outcomes.

Cover successful key loading, database errors, and zero matching rows returning gorm.ErrRecordNotFound. The zero-row case protects the partition-key contract used by downstream job-run loaders.

As per coding guidelines: “new Go functions and methods need unit tests.” Based on learnings: non-trivial helpers with error-handling behavior should have tests.
