sdg: IP 0002 — configuration import not tied to a package name - #9

Conversation
The Developer asked (2026-10-28) that the configuration file's defineConfig import stop being tied to the literal specifier "xspec", so a plain install of the published package gives type support while existing "xspec" imports keep working. Triage: improvement. SPEC.md section 7 ties the configuration's defineConfig import to the literal module specifier "xspec", so SPEC.md must change. Developer-confirmed scope: the import may name any module specifier, which xspec never reads; SPEC.md gains the product's own importable module exporting defineConfig, with a type contract and an offline-testable reach under any installed name; no package or distribution name appears in SPEC.md. SEED.md consumed. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_013YYSZMkyd9AoGQtaMGNwtw

…lation and covered setups Applied review items: C1, C2, C3, C4, I1, I2, I3, O1, O2, O3, O4. Open questions Q1 and Q2 were answered by Developer and applied: - Q1: every resolution mode that finds installed packages (node10, node16, nodenext, bundler), with the module values each mode requires; ES-module and CommonJS projects; .ts/.mts/.cts/.tsx config files; TypeScript 5.9.3 with strict on and every other option at its default; runtime on every release of the Node.js 22 line, through import and require. - Q2: selector-form and empty-list rules join the closed type-error class; every other configuration error carries no type-level requirement. Rejected: none. C3 is applied through its exclusion option. Its alternative, making such aliases invalid under 7, is declined: it narrows validity, against the IP's strict relaxation and Non-goals. Additions beyond the review, verified against TypeScript 5.9.3 and Node.js 22: - C1's exclusion also covers identifier keys spelled with Unicode escapes. - The await alias is excluded beside C3's names. require/exports aliases (TS2441 under CommonJS emit) and string-literal import names (TS18057 under module es2015/es2020) are excluded too. - The shape-violation bullet requires at least one type error, since TypeScript reports only the first unknown key of an object literal. - Installed names exclude the @types scope (TS6137) and Node.js built-in module names. … runtime floor, module-scoped package Applied review items: I1, I2, O1, O2, O3, O4, O5, O6, O7. - I1: the runtime no-effect rule excludes the runtime's own resolution and loading of the package's files, and names the effects it forbids: filesystem reads outside the package, filesystem writes, network access, output on standard output or standard error, and changes to the global object or other process state. - I2: the package and installation definitions concern the module alone and make no claim about how the xspec executable is provided or run. - O1: Strict relaxation keeps change 1's "relative" for derived-file paths. - O2: change 1 says "its import, when its specifier ends in .xspec". - O3: TypeScript's default libraries and the runtime's built-ins are carved out of the two absolute phrases. - O4: the installed-name grammar treats scope and name each as the run. - O5: a require result's own enumerable properties count symbol keys too. - O6: no other module of the package carries a contract. - O7: the non-goals name all three residuals parked in issue #8. Open questions, answered by Developer and applied: - Q2: TypeScript 5.9.3's tsc --init option set, listed explicitly, joins the covered setups for configuration files compiled as ES modules. CommonJS files stay outside it, since TypeScript rejects their import for any product (TS1295). The documentation note tells CommonJS projects to name the configuration .mts (passed with --config, since the upward search finds only xspec.config.ts) or to declare "type": "module". No named configuration type is exported. - Q1: the runtime contract covers the Node.js 22 line and every later line, still resting on nothing a later 22.x release introduced. The built-in-name exclusion for N follows the Node.js release in use. Rejected: none. Checked with TypeScript 5.9.3 in scratch probes: - Under the tsc --init options, a defineConfig returning a non-exported interface fails with TS4082. Returning the argument's own type, an inlined type alias, or unknown passes. - A conforming declaration still reports unknown keys (TS2353) in .mts, .ts and .tsx files. - TypeScript resolves a package installed as fs normally, so the built-in-name exclusion concerns the runtime contract only. …itions, well-formed spellings Applied review items: I1, I2, I3, O1, O2, O3. - I1: the grammar of N excludes names in the @typescript scope that begin with lib-. TypeScript looks up replacements for its default libraries under that form, and libReplacement is on in both covered option sets. - I2: the holding directory is read along the importing file's physical path and is never itself named node_modules. Reach now states three conditions: nothing nearer, no self-reference, and physical naming. The program inherits them. - I3: spelling independence and the accepted spellings are limited to specifiers that leave the file well-formed TypeScript (14.20). An escape the scanner rejects stays a configuration error. Strict relaxation is limited to well-formed files to match. - O1: the program admits the package's own declarations beside the default libraries. - O2: in the code-group case the source gets an invalid-import finding beside any other it carries. The patch no longer claims that finding is the only one. - O3: Reach's Node.js half is limited to the runtime contract's releases, and the built-in-name exclusion covers Node.js's resolution as well as the runtime contract. Rejected: - Q1 (non-blocking): already settled. Developer chose the TypeScript 5.9.3 pin and its option sets in the answers applied at 693025f and 6ad3b07. - Q2 (non-blocking): already settled. Developer chose the docs remedy for CommonJS projects in the answer applied at 6ad3b07: name the file .mts and pass --config, or declare "type": "module". Adding .mts discovery would be a follow-up IP. Addition beyond the review, of the same kind as I2: a stray N.js or N.d.ts next to the package, or any entry at N in a nearer node_modules, captures require and TypeScript. Reach's nothing-nearer condition now excludes both. Checked with TypeScript 5.9.3 and Node.js 22.22.0 in scratch probes: - @typescript/lib-es5 fails under every option set (TS2318). lib-esnext, lib-es2015, lib-es2020, lib-dom and lib-decorators fail under some. @typescript/lib-foo and @typescript/other pass. - The escapes \x4, \u{110000}, \01 and \8 give TS1125, TS1198, TS1487 and TS1488. \0, well-formed escapes, line continuations and U+FFFD parse. - With the holding directory named node_modules, TypeScript gives TS2307 in every mode and require fails, but import succeeds. - A project manifest that gives the name N and declares exports captures the specifier under nodenext and bundler (TS7016) and in both Node.js loaders. A manifest that gives the name without exports does not. - With the package on the logical path only, tsc passes on the logical name and Node.js fails. A physically named file with the package in a physical ancestor passes under every tool. - Every TypeScript mode and both loaders resolve the setups the new wording admits: a project under X/node_modules with the package at X/node_modules, a scoped name, and a linked project named physically. ….js run pin, TypeScript's route Applied review items: I1, I2, O1, O2, O3. - I1: Reach's nothing-nearer condition rules out TypeScript's stem lookups. S is N cut before the first "." of its last segment. In the holding directory, no entry but the placement may begin node_modules/S. Chosen over taking "." out of N's grammar: a dotted scope makes TypeScript's @types name dotted anyway (@s.x/a looks up @types/s.x__a). The same condition now also rules out TypeScript's @types lookup, a resolution of the same kind that the review did not name. D is @types/N, or @types/scope__name for @scope/name, and T is D cut the same way. In the importing file's directory and each ancestor nearer than the holding directory, no entry may occupy node_modules/N or node_modules/D, or begin node_modules/S. or node_modules/T. - I2: the runtime contract, and Reach's Node.js half through it, covers Node.js run with no option, environment variable, or module customization hook that changes how modules are resolved or loaded: no user condition, no loader or hook, and none through NODE_OPTIONS. - O1: Reach states TypeScript's one route (the covered file's import declaration, whatever module format applies) apart from Node.js's routes (import, dynamic import(), require). - O2: the package.json nearest the configuration file decides whether the project is an ES-module or a CommonJS project. A project with no package.json is CommonJS. - O3: the 22.0 clause moves to the rationale, not carried into SPEC.md. Rejected: - O4: its test for "names none" is unsound. @types/... names lie outside N's grammar yet name packages, and registry names with uppercase letters exist from before the lowercase rule. Change 3 already states the requirement, and the spelling is wording for spec refinement. - Q1 (non-blocking, .mts discovery): already settled. Developer chose the docs remedy for CommonJS projects in the answer applied at 6ad3b07. Rejected as settled at f0e1aa1 too. - Q2 (non-blocking, TypeScript release range): already settled. Developer chose the TypeScript 5.9.3 pin in the answers applied at 693025f and 6ad3b07. Rejected as settled at f0e1aa1 too. Checked with TypeScript 5.9.3 and Node.js 22.22.0 in scratch probes: - I1 reproduced. node_modules/a.ts captures "a.js", and node_modules/a.d.b.ts captures "a.b", under node10 always and outside ES-module lookups when the package has no exports. This also holds for @s/a.js and @s/a.d.ts. A nearer node_modules/a.d.ts captures "a.js" even when the package has exports. - A nearer node_modules/@types/a (directory or a.d.ts file), @types/s__a for @s/a, and @types/a.d.ts for "a.js" each capture TypeScript. A nearer @types/s.d.x__a.ts captures @s.x/a. With an exports map in the @types package, the capture holds in every mode. An @types entry in the holding directory does not capture. - Every admitted near miss reaches the package in every mode, with and without exports: ab.ts, a/, a-b.d.ts, @types/a.js/ in the holding directory, and a/, ab.d.ts, @types/a/, @types/ab.d.ts nearer for "a.js", plus the scoped equivalents. - I2 reproduced. With a require-first exports map, -C require (also through NODE_OPTIONS) gives the import namespace default beside defineConfig. With an import-first map, -C import sends require to the ES-module entry, which fails with ERR_REQUIRE_ESM when require of an ES module is off. - Node.js does no stem stripping. require("a.js") reaches the package beside a.cjs and a.json. …e, program without other declarations, typed exports Applied review items: I1, I2, O1, O2, O3. - I1: Reach's no-self-reference condition now excludes every manifest name TypeScript or Node.js reads as N or as a leading part of it: a name that, each "\" read as "/", is empty, or is N or N's scope, with or without one trailing "/". Beyond the review's list, the backslash spellings are included: TypeScript reads "\" as "/" in a manifest name. The condition stays independent of "exports", as it was for N, so it rules out more than the tools need. - I2: the nearer-directory bullet of "Nothing nearer" covers every directory from the importing file's own up to, but excluding, the holding directory, none where the two coincide. It no longer reads as forbidding the placement in the canonical layout. - O1: the Program bullet's claim that the project kind gives the module format is dropped. Reach already says the route holds whatever format TypeScript applies. - O2: the program holds no file but TypeScript's default libraries, none replaced by an installed package, and the package's own declaration files. Other packages, typescript among them, may be installed, so the setup the intake goal describes is covered. - O3: the type contract gains an Exports bullet. As TypeScript resolves the covered file's import, the module exports exactly defineConfig, a value with no type or namespace meaning, and no other export. The opening points to the type contract and the runtime contract. Rejected: - Q1 (non-blocking, .mts discovery): already settled. Developer chose the docs remedy for CommonJS projects in the answer applied at 6ad3b07. Rejected as settled at f0e1aa1 and 4716c18 too. Checked with TypeScript 5.9.3 and Node.js 22.22.0 in scratch probes: - A project manifest declaring exports captures the specifier under node16, nodenext and bundler, for .mts and .cts files alike, when its name is "", N, N/, N\, the scope, scope/, scope\, scope\name or scope/name\. require is captured by N and by the scope. import is captured only by N. node10 is never captured. - The names /, \, N//, @ and scope// capture nothing, and no name captures without exports. - Under node10 (module default), a .ts file in an ES-module project is emitted as CommonJS. Under bundler (esnext or preserve), one in a CommonJS project is emitted as an ES module. Only node16 and nodenext follow the project's type. - With typescript installed beside the package and run from there, the program holds only its default libraries, the package's declaration file and the configuration file. …ept IP 0002 Iteration 6's review of specs/patches/0002-config-import-specifier.md reported no Critical or Important items. It had only Optional O1-O2 and the non-blocking questions Q1-Q2, so the refinement halts. Under the HALT exit the body is not edited. Only the Stage line changes. Applied none. O1 and O2 are left unapplied: both are Optional, and a HALT round does no other work. Both hold up in scratch probes (TypeScript 5.9.3, Node.js 22.22.0). Notes for spec refinement: - O1 (Covered setups, Program): confirmed. A types entry that is a .ts source puts node_modules/N/index.ts into the program under node10 and nodenext. A /// <reference lib="es2015" /> in the package's declarations adds lib.es2015*.d.ts under the strict defaults' es5 target. Either takes setups out of coverage. An installed @typescript/lib-es2015 also replaces a library the package references. So a fix phrased over what the setup adds must keep the replacement condition over every TypeScript library in the program, not only the default ones. - O2 (Package and installation, N): the Node.js finding is confirmed for node_modules and @s/node_modules alike. Under --no-experimental-detect-module, a "type": "module" package with a .js entry loads as okname and @s/okname but fails as node_modules and @s/node_modules, its entry read as CommonJS. The npm reason holds for the unscoped form only: validate-npm-package-name 6.0.1, bundled with npm, rejects node_modules but accepts @s/node_modules. Rejected: - Q1 (non-blocking, .mts discovery): already settled. Developer chose the docs remedy for CommonJS projects in the answer applied at 6ad3b07, and the Non-goals keep the file's name and location. Rejected as settled at f0e1aa1, 4716c18 and a51436e too. - Q2 (non-blocking, TypeScript release range): already settled. Developer chose the TypeScript 5.9.3 pin in the answers applied at 693025f and 6ad3b07. Rejected as settled at f0e1aa1 and 4716c18 too. No question lapsed. This refinement resolved no problems file, and none exists. specs/tmp/REVIEW.md is removed through git. Flips IP 0002's Stage from Proposed to Accepted (Phase 3's end stage). …Config module, no package name Iteration 1 of SPEC.md refinement for accepted IP 0002. Applied C1-C3, I1 and O1-O3. Rejected none. - C1: 7's declarative form takes any static string literal as the import's specifier. A new paragraph states the reading-as-configuration rule, baselines (6.3) included. The specifier is never interpreted, resolved or loaded, and no read or network access is made on its account. Validity and every derived result are independent of what it designates and of any spelling that leaves the file well-formed. Scanner-rejected escapes cite 14.20 and add no new rule. Reading as configuration applies none of 4's or 14.15's rules. Those rules reach the file only where a group discovers it, analyzed as any source, and the consequences are pointed to (6.3, 6.5, 12.1, 13.3, 14.15), not restated. The configuration stays valid. "xspec unchanged" reads: no command's outcome depends, through a configuration, on the module or on its installation. The qualifier keeps the sentence true where a code glob discovers the installed package's own files. - C2: new 7.6 "The defineConfig module" carries Package and installation, Reach, Covered setups, Covered files, Type contract and Runtime at the IP's rigor, with none of its rationale. The opening's interface list gains the module. N's form is carried exactly. Only the explanatory clause of its @typescript/lib- exception says "its libraries" instead of "its default libraries" (the I1 ambiguity). The excluded names are unchanged. - C3: 7's example imports from the placeholder "<installed-name>", explained in the declarative-form sentence. No rule or example names a package or distribution, and no wording refers to an earlier specifier. - I1: Covered setups' Program is defined by what the setup contributes. The configuration file is the sole root and no @types package is included automatically, so the program holds only TypeScript's libraries for the option set and what the import brings in, of any kind, including the libraries it references. Every library in the program is TypeScript's own, none replaced by an installed package. "Nothing else need be installed" says "TypeScript's own libraries", and type-checking counts errors in any file of the program. - O1: the surface is named "the defineConfig module" in the opening, in 7, and in 13.1 ("no runtime dependency on xspec, its defineConfig module (7.6) included"). - O2: 2.1 drops "import nothing from xspec": the compiler provides <S>, <Spec> and text, and the only permitted imports are spec modules. - O3: the list of other configuration errors drops "glob validity". 7 and 14.14 define only globs outside the root. Noted, with no SPEC.md edit: O4. IMPLEMENTATION.md's Distribution section still names the npm package `xspec`. This is flagged for whichever phase maintains IMPLEMENTATION.md. No problems file was involved. specs/tmp/REVIEW.md is removed through git. …again, every directive or pragma excluded Iteration 2 of SPEC.md refinement for accepted IP 0002. Applied C1, O1 and O2. Rejected none. O3 lies outside the target. - C1: 7.6, Covered setups, Program. What enters the program is a condition of the covered setup again, as the IP states it, not a consequence: the configuration file is the one root file and nothing else enters but TypeScript's libraries for the option set and what its import declaration brings in. Iteration 1's broadening stays, so files of any kind and the libraries they reference still count when that import brings them in. The bullet names the two setup-side routes the condition rules out: an @types package TypeScript includes automatically, and a module it imports implicitly (react/jsx-runtime under jsx react-jsx). A scratch probe on TypeScript 5.9.3 confirmed the review. Under the initialized-project options, an installed react that provides jsx-runtime types entered a JSX-free configuration's program. Its declare module then made the module export defineConfig and extra, with no diagnostics. Without react installed, the same .ts and .tsx files type-check with no error, so both option sets keep covered setups. - O1: 7.6, Covered files, second bullet. Every comment TypeScript reads as a directive or pragma is excluded "whatever its effect". This replaces the rationale "each of which suppresses errors or raises its own", which can be read as narrowing the exclusion. @jsxImportSource joins the pragma examples. The probe confirmed that, under the strict defaults, that pragma brings x/jsx-runtime into the program. - O2: 7. The note on the example's "<installed-name>" leaves the declarative-form MUST sentence and becomes its own sentence after the example. Not applied, outside the target: O3. IMPLEMENTATION.md's Distribution section still names the npm package `xspec`, and IMPLEMENTATION.md is not this refinement's to edit. It is relayed for routing, as iteration 1's O4 was. No problems file was involved, and no open question was raised. specs/tmp/REVIEW.md is removed through git. …eclared exports only, the config import's scope
Iteration 3 of SPEC.md refinement for accepted IP 0002. Applied C1, I1
and O1-O3. Rejected none. O4 lies outside the target.
- C1: 7.6 Reach gains a fourth condition, "Well-formed manifests".
Every package.json in the importing file's directory or one of its
ancestors must meet three requirements:
- it is a readable file holding, as UTF-8 with no byte-order mark, a
JSON object that repeats no member name;
- its name and type members, where present, are strings;
- none of its strings escapes a lone surrogate.
The lead-in now reads "four conditions". The first three rule out a
resolution elsewhere, the last a failure of Node.js's routes.
Program's project kind reads type from that object: ES-module when
it "holds an object whose type member is "module"".
Scratch probes on Node.js 22.22.0 confirmed the review. They also
showed that the review's suggested "well-formed JSON object" is not
enough. Every route (static import, dynamic import(), require)
fails with ERR_INVALID_PACKAGE_CONFIG in these cases:
- the manifest is malformed, empty, or not an object;
- it is invalid UTF-8;
- it has a name or type of another kind ({"name": 5},
{"type": null});
- name, type, or a string exports or imports holds a lone-surrogate
escape.
A BOM, a directory at the path, an unknown type string, and a
malformed ancestor above a well-formed nearest manifest pass.
TypeScript 5.9.3 reads a malformed manifest as declaring nothing
(TS1295 under the initialized-project options). It lets the last of
duplicate type members win where Node.js keeps "module", so repeated
member names are excluded too. A sanity probe found that every
manifest meeting the condition passes all three routes. The
condition covers every manifest in the importing file's directory
and its ancestors, matching No self-reference's scope, because Node.js
CJS, Node.js ESM and TypeScript disagree on which manifest is
nearest. The condition completes the IP's carve-outs, which the IP
leaves to spec refinement, without changing its intent.
- I1: Type contract, Exports. The module "declares exactly one export,
defineConfig". TypeScript's synthetic default is not an export the
module declares. That default is the default import TypeScript admits,
for interoperation with CommonJS, of a module declaring none, as in a
file it compiles as CommonJS. Probes on TypeScript 5.9.3 back this.
`import d from` type-checks for .cts under node16, nodenext and
bundler, and for a CommonJS project's .ts under node16 and nodenext.
It fails with TS1192 everywhere else. The checker lists exactly
defineConfig in every setup.
- O1: 7. "through a configuration" becomes "through a configuration's
import". A code glob that discovers the installed package's own
files changes outcomes, so the claim is scoped to the import.
- O2: 7, the note under the example. The placeholder stands for "the
name N under which the project installed the defineConfig module's
package (7.6)".
- O3: 7.6 Covered files, third bullet. It keeps only the citation of
6.5's first rule for an added import's identifiers, not a second copy
of its word list.
Not applied, outside the target: O4. IMPLEMENTATION.md's Distribution
section still names the npm package `xspec`. It is relayed for routing,
as in iterations 1 and 2.
No problems file was involved, and no open question was raised.
specs/tmp/REVIEW.md is removed through git.

…l 0, important 0 - HALT); flip IP 0002 to Stage: Applied Review round 4 (2071bc2) raised no Critical or Important items and no open questions. SPEC.md is unchanged this round. Not applied: - O1: targets IMPLEMENTATION.md (Product -> Distribution's "One npm package, `xspec`" and Language and runtime's "ES modules throughout" against 7.6's Runtime `require` on Node.js 22.0-22.11). That file is outside this target and this Driver's permitted edits, and the review itself says SPEC.md needs no change. IMPLEMENTATION.md's preamble lets the spec win, so the item blocks nothing. It is carried forward in the HALT report for the pass that maintains IMPLEMENTATION.md. Removes specs/tmp/REVIEW.md (kept in history at 2071bc2). Q1 answered by the Developer: E-1 states the release rule and the versions it yields on 2026-10-29 (22.0.0, 22.11.0, 22.12.0, 22.23.4, 24.22.2, 26.13.0), Linux leg only, provisioned before the run. Rejected: - Q2: SPEC 7.6's "beyond the runtime's own ... loading" already exempts runtime-emitted loading warnings; a stricter test would add a product requirement. T7.6-7(a) and S-10's stand-ins make the exemption observable. - Q3: PROCESS's blackbox rule and S-3's stance (no test observes system calls) settle it; FIFO decoys and denied network are staged, and the rest is recorded as a residual in T7.6-7. - C1(c), in part: 5.9.3 does not default `target` to ES5 in every strict-default set (ES2022 under module node16/node18, ES2023 under node20, ESNext under nodenext); the text states the release-derived default instead. - C3, in part: twin comparisons leave graph data out (opaque content, as in T7-8) and compare exit codes, stdout, inventory's configuration, generated modules, and emitted Markdown. …nstalls, and 7.6's admitted values and loading output
Iteration 2 of IP 0002's TEST-SPEC refinement.
Applied:
- C1 (T7-10(e)): the configuration discovered by a spec group:
xspec.config.ts matched by a spec glob (14.19 beside its content's
14.15 and 14.16), and xspec.config.mdx named by --config (14.15 and
14.16); never 14.14. The review's expectations gain the export
statement's 14.16 (2.7) and, for the .ts arm, the in-file findings
that section 14 does not mask behind 14.19.
- I1 (T7-9(d)): trap and FIFO-manifest arms also staged under `xspec`
and under the module channel manifest's own name, on T7-8's
representative commands (rename included), against a twin holding no
node_modules, with absolute outcomes so the arm stays red on S-7.
- I2 (T7-10(c)): a file move leaves an undiscovered configuration's
"./specs/A.xspec" import alone; its discovered twin is refused.
- I3 (T7.6-2(a), (f)): every value 7 enumerates at each position; the
empty forms (code: {}, coverage: [], policy: []) and emit: false;
and, in the same vein, every optional field omitted.
- I4 (T7.6-3): "contains" at both edge-kind positions.
- I5 (T7.6-7(a), S-10): the stderr oracle admits the release's own
process warnings, whatever the manifest draws (DEP0128 and DEP0151
reproduced on Node.js 22.22), and records a module-emitted warning
as unobservable; S-10 checks the oracle on deprecation-drawing
stand-ins.
- O1 (T7.6-4(f)): a type-checking-only placement under fs and path.
TypeScript 5.9.3 resolves each to the installed package in all 173
programs.
- O2 (T7.6-7(c) and residual): extensibility and prototype observed;
the write, state, and output remainders recorded.
- O3 (S-4): import attributes separate module node16 from node18
(TS2823 under node16 alone, confirmed on 5.9.3).
- O4 (T13.1-2): the tooling is the harness's own, with nothing
installed in or above the consumer project.
Rejected:
- I6: E-1's release rule, which leaves out end-of-life lines 23 and 25,
is the Developer's answer to iteration 1's Q1 (dbf8aff). That
question asked whether odd-numbered lines count.
- Q1: wrong on the facts. TypeScript 5.9.3 reports TS1293 only with
isolatedModules or verbatimModuleSyntax on, and the strict defaults
leave both off. All 173 programs, .cts under bundler/preserve
included, type-check against a minimal package.
Not routed (non-blocking, lapses):
- Q2: the matrix stays whole, as 7.6 promises. Measured cost is about
1 s per uncached program, which the harness can cut (parse caching,
sharding under E-3); sampling setups away is not a TEST-SPEC option.
Removes specs/tmp/REVIEW.md (kept in history at 317ed08).

… decode baseline impact, locate the discovered configuration's findings Iteration 3 of IP 0002's TEST-SPEC refinement. Applied: - C1 (T7.6-7(a), (c), residual; S-10): standard error must equal the release's printed forms of the warnings a `warning` listener on `process` captures, in order, and no captured warning's stack may begin in the package's files. Checked on Node.js 22.22.0: a package's process.emitWarning and a util.deprecate'd call start their stacks in the package's file; DEP0128 and DEP0151 start in node:internal; stderr reconstructs byte for byte from the captured warnings; text written straight to stderr has no captured warning behind it. The residual drops both named cases and keeps two the channel cannot discriminate, both reproduced on 22.22.0: a warning the runtime creates in its own code for a built-in the module loads (node:sqlite's experimental warning), and one emitted with the module's frames cut from its stack. - C2 (T7-10(d)): baseline impact compared as information decoded through H-3's adapter, the edited section `changed`, never byte for byte across distinct commits (E-6). - I1 (T7-10(b), (c)): 14.15 located at the import declaration (11.4's import range, `path` null). In the two `.xspec` arms `defineConfig` is a spec-module binding (14.15's own term), so its call is also 14.18, and 14 requires each condition reported; (c)'s gated reads and the refused move report those findings. - I2 (T7.6-1, S-4): the listing is the module's exports together with the members of an export assignment's value that a named import binds. Checked on TypeScript 5.9.3: for `export = m`, m carrying defineConfig, getExportsOfModule is empty, the exports-and-properties listing is defineConfig alone, and the named import type-checks. Not taken to the Developer: 7.6 reads the module "as TypeScript resolves the covered file's import", and its runtime contract reads a CommonJS module's exports as its require result's own properties, which `export =` types. S-4 gains an export-assignment stand-in. - O1 (Verdict, S-4): an interface it does not export, not any type; a non-exported type alias is inlined and draws no TS4082 (checked). - O2 (S-10): S-4's selectivity argument for the observation stand-ins. - O4 (T7-10(d)): baseline arms designating a FIFO and T7-9(d)'s trap. - O5 (E-1, S-10): an unprovisioned listed release is a harness error. - O6 (T7-2): comments between the import declaration's tokens. Rejected: - C1, in part: the residual is narrowed, not removed; the two cases above stay unobservable through the module channel. - O3, in part: process's own properties, the process title, and each standard stream's resolved `write` are observed; the streams' own properties wholesale are not. On 22.22.0 the release's own DEP0128 and DEP0151 output adds process.stderr's own `_eventsCount`, so that would fail conforming packages; the residual records it. process's own properties stayed unchanged across every conforming load and route. Not routed (non-blocking, lapses): - Q1: the estimate assumes a whole-program check per violation program. T7.6-3's verdict already reads only errors located in the configuration file; with parsed libraries shared, TypeScript 5.9.3 judges a violation program in about 27 ms (about 0.65 s for a whole-program check), so the full matrix stays affordable. How the harness shares work is its own choice, and E-3 already parallelizes. Removes specs/tmp/REVIEW.md (kept in history at 1fa6a26). …e wrapped configuration forms and call variants, tie the module channel to the distribution
Iteration 4 of IP 0002's TEST-SPEC refinement.
Applied:
- I1 (T7.6-2(f), P-18, T7-3): 7 bars an empty list only for targetTags,
edgeKinds, a rule's kinds, and a selector's tags (7.4, 7.5, 14.14), and
a group whose globs match nothing is valid (7), so an empty glob list
is valid; 7.4 and 7.5 read those four lists as sets. T7.6-2(f) gains a
file with an empty spec-group and code-group glob list and a repeated
element in each set-read list; P-18 draws both; T7-3 gains a CLI arm
(`product: []` alone, and a code group `app: []`): it loads, discovers
zero sources, and `inventory` reports `globs` exactly [].
- I2 (T7-2): wrapper arms, each 14.14: `satisfies object`, a
parenthesized call, a non-null-asserted call, `as const` and
parenthesized arguments, `emit: true as boolean`, `specs: ({...})`.
4.6 reads a wrapper as another expression, and 7 admits no other
expression form. All nine texts (Q2's two included) parse with no
syntactic diagnostic under TypeScript 5.9.3, as module and as script
code; the two call variants are CallExpressions carrying typeArguments
or questionDotToken.
- I3 (H-2, Placement, C-2): the directory the module channel is given
holds exactly what the package's distribution carries, nothing
installed into it afterwards, never a development tree.
- O1 (T7.6-7(a), (c)): the warning listener is registered, and the state
first read, before the importing module's own loading begins, by
harness-written code that only then loads it. Checked on Node.js
22.22.0: along a static import the package is resolved, loaded, and
evaluated before the importer's body runs. DEP0151 (an ES-module
package's extensionless `main`) is raised during resolution. On that
release it is delivered after the importer's body, so a listener
there still saw it, while one registered before the importer loads
sees it under any scheduling. The text therefore says such a warning
"may" reach listeners first.
- O2 (T7-9(b)): `build`, `check`, `ids`, and `inventory` under --json,
exit 2 with 14.14.
- O3 (T7-9(c)): `./sealed/define.js` below a mode-000 directory
(T14-10(l)'s discipline), refusing even the designated path's kind
read; the residual, a read the product survives, recorded as T6.5-6
records its clauses.
- O4 (T7-10(d)): the FIFO and trap arms also run `review create --base c1
--name n` and `review status n` (10.7: the recorded baseline is
resolved and reconstructed again).
- O5 (T7-11(a)): `hasOwnProperty` as a spec and a code group name.
- O6 (S-10): stand-ins adding an own property to `Array` and `Math`,
setting a `process.env` variable, and calling `process.chdir`.
Rejected: none.
Open questions, answered (ANSWER relayed 2026-10-29):
- Q1: no CI time limit. The full 7.6 matrix runs on every suite run,
no setup or case sampled away. CI per-job limits are met by splitting
the suite into parallel jobs whose union is the whole suite, never by
trimming, and sound speedups that drop no setup-and-case pairing are
open to the harness (7.6's Covered setups rule, E-1). T7.6 is not
shaped around certification cost.
- Q2: `export default defineConfig<Shape>({...})` and
`export default defineConfig?.({...})` are configuration errors
(14.14). SPEC 7 already settles this: the file must "consist of
exactly" an import and "a default export of one call to that binding",
with "no other statement or expression form", and comments are the
only allowance. Type arguments and `?.` are outside that list and are
not comments. 2.3's "optional chaining excluded" does not widen 7, and
7.6's Covered files take in only files in 7's declarative form. No
SPEC problem logged. Pinned in T7-2 as `defineConfig<object>({...})`
and `defineConfig?.({...})`. If a later review says SPEC leaves this
open, cite this ruling.
specs/tmp/REVIEW.md removed with git rm; it stays in history at b41e435.

…FIX_PLAN Task 42)
T7-2 gains TEST-SPEC's arms for keys and enumerated values read as
spelled, a string literal's and an identifier's alike (SPEC 7, 2.4), in
test/suite/registry/section-7-basics.ts, run after the verbatim group
name's arms.
- Refused, each 14.14 with exit 2: the string-literal top-level key
specs with its s written as the hexadecimal escape of U+0073 (an
unknown key, specs then missing); a profile's mode direct with its d
written as that of U+0064; the identifier top-level key specs with
its s written as the Unicode escape of U+0073; and the verbatim group
name keyed as an identifier under a profile's target "product".
- Loading: the group keys ab and ab with its b escaped, as string
literals and as identifiers, declare two groups. Build exits 0, and
inventory reports both groups, the second named as spelled, with
a/A.mdx and b/B.mdx each in its own glob's group alone. The
identifier-keyed group name resolves under a target spelled as its
key.
Each escape is built from BACKSLASH and pinned at module load by
checkedEscapeSpelling (one backslash, the escape's text designating the
character it replaces, the spelling decoding to its twin); a second
check pins canonicalWithSpecsKey("specs") to the canonical text and each
new file's backslash count. verbatimNameConfig takes the key's spelling,
the string-literal records' bytes unchanged, and the string-literal
group-name arm now shares expectVerbatimGroupNameResolves. The minimal
records a and b are renamed to list T7-2's new paths. Every new record
is declared well-formed (S-9). The module header and T7-2's title are
extended; the H-7 row is unchanged. No added line holds a backslash.
Verdicts: s9-staged-sources 4086 of 4086, and a ledger probe showed each
escape in the staged bytes exactly as TEST-SPEC line 330 spells it; the
self project wholly green locally (52 files, 7279 of 7279, admin files
left out, 520.58 s); typecheck and format:check exit 0. Against the
built product T7-2 passes whole (24.1 s of test). A scratch stand-in
red-checked every new arm in eleven modes. Decoding a refused row's
escape fails at that row's exit-code assertion; decoding a two-group
file's escaped b fails its build (a repeated key); decoding the
identifier key alone fails the identifier-keyed group's resolving
build; three perturbed inventory answers fail the assertions they
target. The passthrough passes.

…PLAN Task 43)
T7-2's comments arm gains TEST-SPEC's comments inside the import
declaration, between each two of its tokens (SPEC 7: comments are
permitted anywhere and contribute nothing), in
test/suite/registry/section-7-basics.ts.
- COMMENTED_CONFIG spells its import declaration exactly as TEST-SPEC
line 330 does: a block comment between import and {, { and
defineConfig, defineConfig and }, and } and from; a line comment after
from, its line feed putting the module specifier "xspec" on the next
line; and a block comment after the specifier. A scratch probe took
the two spans and the U+000A between them from the spec's raw line
and found them once in the record.
- The comment-free twin is unchanged, and the arm still compares the
two inventory configuration views as values and as serializations.
The module header, the records' comment, T7-2's title, and the comments
arm's comment and message are extended. The record stays declared
well-formed (S-9). The H-7 row is unchanged. No added line holds a
backslash.
Verdicts: s9-staged-sources 4086 of 4086; the self project wholly green

passes whole (23.2 s of test, 34.7 s wall). A scratch stand-in
red-checked the arm in three modes. Making a file that holds a comment
inside its import declaration unparseable fails T7-2 at the comments
arm's build (exit 2 where 0 is due). Keeping only the first glob in
that file's inventory view fails the byte-identical comparison. The
passthrough passes. Before the change both perturbing modes passed
T7-2.

T7-1 gains TEST-SPEC's configuration file names (SPEC 7: --config names any path, the file judged by the grammar its name selects, 14.20), in test/suite/registry/section-7-basics.ts. - runConfigurationNameArms runs after the occupancy arms and before the name-casing probe, which stays last. It drives --config xspec.config.mts, --config xspec.config.cts, and --config xspec.config.tsx in TEST-SPEC's order. Each workspace holds that plain file beside specs/A.mdx and no xspec.config.ts. Each of build, check, and inventory --json is given the --config and held to exit 0. - Each arm's inventory configuration view is compared with its twin's, as values and as serializations. The twin is the same bytes named xspec.config.ts, driven the same way with --config xspec.config.ts. configurationViewOf gains a configPath option for this; without it, it stages and runs as before. - The .mts and .cts files stage SPECS_ONLY_CONFIG itself, its record name extended. The .tsx file stages TSX_SPECS_ONLY_CONFIG, the same text as a record judged under TSX. A module-load self-check pins every arm's bytes to the twin's under the grammar its name selects. The module header, the record comments, and T7-1's title are extended. Two comments in test/helpers/workspace.ts that called every staged configuration file .ts are corrected. T7-1's H-7 row gains 11.6 for the inventory comparison, as T7-2's row carries it. AGENTS.md gains the arms' bullet, and the T7-2 bullet's sentence on configurationViewOf's check option now names T7-1's use. No added line holds a backslash. Verdicts: s9-staged-sources 4087 of 4087; the self project wholly green locally (52 files, 7280 of 7280, admin files left out, 471.86 s); typecheck and format:check exit 0. Refusing every command for one name fails T7-1 at that arm's build, for each of the three names. Refusing check alone for .cts fails it at that arm's check. Replacing the .tsx arm's inventory glob, or reversing the order of the .mts arm's configuration members, fails the comparison. The passthrough passes. T7-3 gains TEST-SPEC's empty glob lists (SPEC 7: an empty list is barred only for targetTags, edgeKinds, a rule's kinds, and a selector's tags, and a group whose globs match no files is valid), in test/suite/registry/section-7-basics.ts. - Arm (g) closes the body: EMPTY_GLOB_LIST_ARMS in TEST-SPEC's order, each through expectEmptyGlobListLoads. The first is the spec group product: [] alone, its workspace holding the configuration alone. The second is the code group app: [] beside the spec group main over specs/*.mdx, staged over specs/A.mdx. Each configuration is a staged-source record made at module load. - Each arm holds build and check to exit 0, then compares inventory --json's list of the empty group's kind (exactly the group, globs []) and its sources (none; specs/A.mdx a member of main alone) exactly. The module header, its summary of 7's keys, and T7-3's title are extended. T7-3's H-7 row gains 11.6 and 12.7 for the inventory's view and sources, as T7-11's row carries them. … Task 46)
T7.5-1 gains TEST-SPEC's selectors carrying `kind` without `group` (SPEC
7.5: `kind` belongs to the group form alone), in
test/suite/registry/section-7.4-7.5.ts.
- Three RULE_MATRIX rows follow the two-forms row in TEST-SPEC's order,
each selector in `from` beside `to: { group: "aux" }`:
{ files: "src/*.ts", kind: "code" }, { tags: ["a"], kind: "spec" },
and { kind: "spec" }. Each runs through expectConfigRefused (one
`build --json`: 14.14, exit 2, the finding naming xspec.config.ts,
nothing written). Each configuration is a staged-source record made at
module load.
- The first two selectors are valid without their `kind`, so a product
vetting `kind` only beside `group` accepts the configuration and
builds, exit 0.
The module header (its 7.5 summary and a new operationalization bullet)
and T7.5-1's title are extended. T7.5-1's H-7 row stays
["7.5", "7", "14"]: the body asserts 7.5's 14.14 refusal, never 7.6's

mode rewrites its arm's selector as a product vetting `kind` only beside
`group` reads it (the `kind` dropped; the bare { kind: "spec" } read as

The finding map marks B-G5 done. The kept Task 39 verification text, which no remaining task cites, leaves the plan. Task 47 gains T7.5-1's timing data point and is the plan's one remaining task. …split (FIX_PLAN Task 47) Task 47 (E-1, S-3): with every other task done, CI run 1892 (id 41158514177, pull_request event at d0ccc8f) measured the jobs: - harness-self (job 124410767596): green, 9 min 22 s of its 30 (31%); 54 files, 7295 of 7295 tests passing in 515.23 s, certification's 42 verifications included (certification.test.ts 307.4 s). - full suite (job 124410767811): 51 min 23 s of its 360 (14%); 154 files, 7688 tests in 3049.79 s, 7676 passing; its 12 failures are all diagnosed product failures (HarnessAssertionError): P-17, P-18, P-19, T7-9, T7-10, T7.6-1 to T7.6-7. No self test fails. - Windows leg (job 124422547375): green in 58 s; 3 files, 10 tests. Each job's per-file test counts equal npx vitest list's on the same tree: the 392 registered product tests, the E-6 writer test, and the self project's 7295 tests all ran. A conforming package adds about 9 minutes of test time (7.6's tests, P-17, and P-18 measured locally against conforming stand-ins), so neither Linux job comes within a third of its limit: no split and no raised limit. ci.yml's two limit comments give the measured times (comments only; the parsed YAML is unchanged). AGENTS.md's CI bullet and its harness-self bullet record them; the latter's stale 20-minute limit now reads 30, as set at 7e7119b. PR #9 has no review threads, reviews, or comments, and no FIX_PLAN.md exists, so the Code Review Sub-Flow finds nothing to act on and the Phase 9 ralph loop exits at full spec compliance (head d18ad36). …FIX_PLAN Tasks 167-171)
Phase 10's first compliance determination for IP 0002 found reviewer A
(SPEC 1-6) 2 gaps, reviewer B (SPEC 7 onward) 5, reviewer C (outside the
numbered sections) none; VERIFY was red on 12 diagnosed product failures
(T7-9, T7-10, T7.6-1 to T7.6-7, P-17 to P-19), the harness job and the
Windows leg green (CI run 1895).
The plan merges the findings that share a fix point:
- Task 167 (A1, B1): checkImport accepts any static string literal as
the configuration import's specifier; messages name none as required.
- Task 168 (A2, B2): bindings of no permitted form (named non-default,
non-text; namespace) are tracked, each value-level use 14.18 at the
identifier alone, as a text binding outside callee position is.
- Task 169 (B3, B5, the scaffold's note): src/index.ts becomes
src/index.mts, one export over a non-generic exact type built from
unexported aliases; package.json's import route and types follow.
- Task 170 (B4, the scaffold's note): src/index.cts, export = of
{ defineConfig } with the same type.
- Task 171: confirm local and CI green, record the state, delete the plan.
Measured at planning: the scaffold's .js import entry fails SPEC 7.6's
runtime contract for the installation name node_modules on Node.js
22.0.0 (Node's package-scope lookup never reads that package's type
field), while an .mjs entry loads on all six E-1 releases; so Task 169
adopts .mjs. A stand-in compiled by tsc from the planned .mts/.cts
sources passes T7.6-1 to T7.6-7, P-17, and P-18 in full (T7.6-3 262 s of
test). No spec defect found; nothing implemented.

…port's specifier (FIX_PLAN Task 167) SPEC 7 (as IP 0002 revised it): the configuration's import of defineConfig takes any static string literal (2.4) as its module specifier, and wherever xspec reads a configuration, a baseline's (6.3) included, the specifier is never interpreted, resolved, or loaded. checkImport (src/core/config.ts) compared the specifier's value with "xspec" and refused every other spelling with a configuration error (exit 2); both readers (the current configuration's and a baseline's) go through it. The comparison and its finding are gone: checkImport now examines only the specifier's node kind and reads nothing of its value. The ts.isStringLiteral guard stays, with a message of its own: TypeScript 5.9.3's parser takes any expression in the specifier's place (its checker alone requires a string literal), so an identifier, a template literal, or a parenthesized string parses with no syntax diagnostic, and such a file, whose specifier is no static string literal (2.4: template literals are not static), stays a configuration error by 7's form (measured: each exits 2 with the new message). The four escapes TypeScript's scanner rejects still exit 2 through checkSyntax's syntax diagnostics. FORM_EXPECTATION and the named-import message now state the correction in 7's terms and name no specifier as required (no test pins either text). Comments the change contradicted are rewritten: config.ts's header, checkImport's doc comment and guard comment, the defer comment's example, and code-analysis.ts's note on import attributes. AGENTS.md: the P-19, T7-9, and T7-10 bullets' verdicts against the built product. Verification (local, unprivileged recipe, a fresh pack as XSPEC_PACKAGE_DIR, VERIFY's six releases): - hand probes: "@modularcloud/xspec", "XSPEC", "./nowhere.js", "", single-quoted xspec, "https://example.invalid/define.js", an escape- spelled, a line-continued, and a U+FFFD-holding specifier: build and check exit 0 finding-free, generated modules and Markdown byte-identical to the "xspec" twin's; T7-9(b)'s four scanner-rejected escapes (written with backslashes built from code point 92, one per file, counted): build exits 2, configuration-error, path xspec.config.ts; an identifier, a template literal, and a parenthesized string: exit 2; a git baseline c1 importing from "" against a working tree importing from "xspec": impact --base c1 exits 0, specs/A.mdx#a changed, the report equal to the "xspec" twin commit's but for the echoed baseline sha. - section-7-import + section-16-p19 (69.7 s wall): T7-9 passes all 28 arms (36.9 s of test), P-19 passes (46.8 s), T7-10 fails exactly the 8 arms awaiting Task 168, each at its 14.18 assertion alone (the four (b) .xspec arms, (c)'s two gate arms, the converse's two discovered twins). - regressions: section-7-basics, -7-discovery, -7-names, -7.1-7.3, -7.4-7.5, -6.3, -12.7, -14, -14-ii, -14-iii, -16-p8: 11 files, 42 tests, all passing (368.7 s wall). - npm run typecheck and npm run format:check pass. …of no permitted form as 14.18 (FIX_PLAN Task 168)
SPEC 4 permits only the default and `text` bindings from a spec module;
4.5 sanctions value-level uses of a node and of a `text` binding alone,
so a named binding of any other export, or a namespace binding, has no
sanctioned value-level use (14.18), and the import's 14.15 leaves its uses
detectable (14). The product tracked neither binding, so their uses
reported nothing: `foo(1)`, `const z = foo`, `console.log(NS)`, and the
discovered configuration's `defineConfig({...})` under a `.xspec`
specifier (SPEC 7, TEST-SPEC T7-10(b)) carried the import's 14.15 alone.
scanImportDeclaration now registers such a binding as an
UnpermittedBinding (a type-only one as type-level, no condition), whatever
the specifier designates; the collision pass of scanModuleLinks still
replaces a colliding identifier's entry, unchanged. Every value-level use
the walk reaches is 14.18 located at the identifier alone (SPEC 14: a
static chain extends a node binding's spelling only), in visitIdentifier,
visitExportSpecifiers, and visitImportEqualsUse; analyzeTextCall records
nothing for a `text` argument rooted at one, and a call through one is no
`text` call. Comments the change contradicted are rewritten.
No test pins the chain-shaped and `text`-argument corners (T7-10 pins the
callee use alone). There SPEC 4.5 and 14.18 govern such a binding as they
govern a `text` binding outside callee position, so the product's existing
treatment is the yardstick: `foo.a.b;` reports 14.18 at `foo` alone, no
marker and no 14.7, as `text.a.b;` reports `text`; `text(foo)` reports
14.18 at `foo` and nothing for the call, as `text(t)` reports `t` for
another import's `text` binding.
Verified locally (unprivileged recipe, a fresh pack as XSPEC_PACKAGE_DIR):
hand probes over 44 workspaces against a before-build of ec6e7d3 (every
staging of the plan's Verification 1 as specified; collisions, type-only
bindings, shadowing, and the missing-default contrast unchanged);
section-7-import 2/2 green, T7-9 and T7-10 in full (75.3 s wall); the 30
regression files the plan names, 135 tests green (821.7 s wall);
npm run typecheck and format:check clean. AGENTS.md: a new bullet
beginning "Hand-probing SPEC 14.18 for spec-module bindings of no
permitted form", and the T7-10 bullet's verdict.

… and an exact configuration type, as an .mjs file (FIX_PLAN Task 169) SPEC 7.6: the module exports exactly defineConfig, no other value and no type, and its type contract fails every member of the type-error class while every valid configuration type-checks; its runtime contract binds every installation name on every 22-line release. - src/index.ts becomes src/index.mts (built to dist/index.mjs, typed by dist/index.d.mts): one export, a non-generic defineConfig(config: Config): Config, over unexported type aliases (no interface, which a consumer's declaration emit cannot inline: TS4082). Non-empty tuples bar the four empty lists 7.4 and 7.5 forbid; each selector form declares the others' keys optional never; glob lists stay plain string[]; the enumerations leave out "contains". - package.json: exports["."].import and the top-level types name dist/index.mjs and dist/index.d.mts. An .mjs file is an ES module by its extension alone: Node.js reads no "type" for a package installed as node_modules/node_modules, and 22.0 predates module-syntax detection. …x.cts, for the require route (FIX_PLAN Task 170)
SPEC 7.6 (Reach, Runtime, Type contract): with the package installed under
N, require in a CommonJS module designates the module on every release of
the Node.js 22 line, 22.0 to 22.11 included, where require cannot load an
ES module without a flag; its result has exactly one own enumerable
property, defineConfig; and in the setups that resolve the require entry
(a file TypeScript compiles as CommonJS under node16 or nodenext) the
module declares that one export, with the import entry's type-error class.
- src/index.cts, built to dist/index.cjs and typed by dist/index.d.cts, the
files package.json's exports["."].require already names: the import
entry's type aliases byte for byte (each entry's header names its twin),
a plain defineConfig(config: Config): Config, and export = of
{ defineConfig }. Under verbatimModuleSyntax a CommonJS-format file takes
export = (TS1287 otherwise); tsc emits "use strict", the function, and
module.exports = { defineConfig } with no __esModule marker, and types
the assignment as a constant carrying defineConfig alone.
- The CommonJS entry is the means 7.6 requires beside IMPLEMENTATION.md's
"ES modules throughout" (the Liaison's ruling of 2026-10-29); every other
product module stays an ES module. No package.json change.

Each pass ran in a fresh single-branch clone after `npm ci`, under the unprivileged recipe (unshare --map-user=1000, with NODE_OPTIONS and NODE_PATH unset), with E-1's six releases as XSPEC_NODE_RELEASES_DIR: - Self project, no dist/, XSPEC_PACKAGE_DIR unset, admin self-tests left out: 52 files, 7285 tests, all passed, 524.08 s. Certification 172 PASS / 50 FAIL / 0 error / 0 hang over 222 pairs (42 lines: all 10 conformers passed every pair, and each of the 32 violators failed at least one). - Build, typecheck and format:check clean; packed with pack-package.sh. Suite and self projects as `npm test` runs them, with the admin self-tests and T13.5-9's and T13.5-10's files left out: 150 files, 7676 tests, all passed, 3031.59 s. Certification 172/50/0/0. The E-6 writer passed; the exchange holds 74 files, 86,272 bytes. - test:windows against that exchange: 3 files, 10 tests, 9 passed. The drive-mismatch arm failed by design (no subst off Windows); byte-identity passed. - test:local: no test files, exit 0. - `git diff b63b527 -- test/ .github/` is empty. CI run 1904 (id 41197546944, pull_request event of PR #9, attempt 1) on 6acaf6e: all three jobs green. - Harness self-tests + certification (Linux), job 124526654235: 54 files, 7295 tests, 514.14 s. Both admin self-test files passed (7 and 3 tests). Certification 172/50/0/0. Job time 9.25 min. - Full suite (Linux, E-1), job 124526654376: 154 files, 7688 tests, all passed, 3147.07 s. T13.5-9 and T13.5-10 passed. e6-linux-outputs uploaded, 30642 bytes. Job time 53.0 min. - Windows leg (E-6 subset), job 124537554012: 3 files, 10 tests, all passed, 49.97 s. Job time 1.5 min. AGENTS.md: the last bullet is rewritten for this plan (its history, the gaps it closed, and its opening and closing figures). The CI bullet gains the conforming product's measured job times (runs 1903 and 1904). …triage Full spec compliance was reached at 0e39783 (three compliance reviewers COMPLIANT, VERIFY green locally and in CI run 1905). PR #9 has no review threads, no reviews and no conversation comments, so nothing was accepted and no FIX_PLAN.md exists; the product ralph loop exits. …plete The release commit for IP 0002 (PR #9), per specs/DEVOPS.md and the Liaison's release-step clarification of 2026-10-31. - README.md and docs/: install with a plain `npm install --save-dev @modularcloud/xspec`, run with `npx @modularcloud/xspec`, and import `defineConfig` from "@modularcloud/xspec". The alias install step is gone, and nothing leads users to the unscoped name, which belongs to an unrelated package. docs/configuration.md states that the import may use any plain quoted specifier, which xspec never resolves. A new "Type checking the configuration" section covers the defineConfig module's one export, the type-error class, the covered TypeScript setups, CommonJS projects (an .mts file passed with --config, or "type": "module"), the runtime contract, and an upgrade note for 0.2.x alias installs. It also covers the configuration file discovered as a code source. The `version` examples show 0.3.0. Commands and examples were checked against a build of this tree (at 0.3.0), packed with pack-package.sh and installed into a scratch project under its published name. - specs/IMPLEMENTATION.md: the Distribution bullet names @modularcloud/xspec. "ES modules throughout" now notes the defineConfig module's CommonJS entry (src/index.cts, built to dist/index.cjs) beside its ES entry (src/index.mts, built to dist/index.mjs), which SPEC 7.6's require route needs on every Node.js 22 release. - AGENTS.md: two bullets, on GitHub through this sandbox's proxy and on escape spellings in tool input. - specs/DEVOPS.md: held corrections and lessons ride the release commit. Issue #8 is the parked-work issue, and each later release adds one comment to it. Deleting a branch is a manual Developer step, named in the release report. Steps 1, 3, and 4 of the flow follow these rules. - package.json, package-lock.json: version 0.3.0, the next minor version, since IP 0002 changes existing behavior (npm's latest is 0.2.1). - specs/patches/0002-config-import-specifier.md: Stage: Complete. This PR adds the Improvement Proposal
specs/patches/0002-config-import-specifier.md(Stage: Proposed), drafted from the seed "config-import improvement". It changes the configuration'sdefineConfigimport so that it is no longer tied to the literal module specifier"xspec".The proposal makes these
SPEC.mdchanges:defineConfigimport may name any module specifier, and xspec never interprets, resolves or loads it. Every other constraint on the import stays as it is.
