Turning surveillance, entomological and satellite data into decisions for dengue and arbovirus control 🦟🗺️
- 🦟 20+ years working on prevention and control of vector-borne diseases (dengue, Zika, chikungunya) in Mexico
- 🗺️ Spatial epidemiology: hotspot detection, risk mapping and Bayesian spatial models (INLA, BYM2)
- 🤖 Machine learning for early warning and active transmission foci (XGBoost, LightGBM,
tidymodels) - 🛰️ Remote sensing with Google Earth Engine: urban heat islands, LST, vegetation and drought indices
- 📦 Open-source tools in R and Python so health programs can reuse the analyses
- 🤝 Collaborations with Emory University, CDC, LSHTM and the University of Oxford
dengueverse is a family of R packages for the surveillance, spatial analysis and control of dengue and Aedes-borne diseases in Mexico, distributed through R-universe.
| Package | Description |
|---|---|
| denhotspots | Identification of persistent dengue transmission hotspots |
| deneggs | Spatial prediction of Aedes egg counts where ovitraps were not collected |
| densnv | Tools for dengue surveillance data from the national system (SINAVE) |
| rgeomex | Spatial (areal) datasets for Mexico from INE & INEGI |
| popmex | Population data for Mexico for rates and denominators |
Install any package from the dengueverse:
install.packages("denhotspots",
repos = c("https://fdzul.r-universe.dev",
"https://cloud.r-project.org"))| Project | Language | Description |
|---|---|---|
| denguedatasets-py | Python | Curated open-access dengue surveillance & climate datasets for epidemiology and ML |
| boldenr | R | Automated dengue epidemiological bulletins (Veracruz) |
| spatial_analysis_dengue_R | R | Course/material on spatial analysis of dengue in R |
