Cloning field entries causes duplicate ckeditor fields

When cloning existing fields in craft using ckeditor creates duplicate ckeditor field entries

Steps to reproduce

1. clone existing block in field using ckeditor
2. see duplicate ckeditor fields render
3. saving entry removes duplicates

Hi, thanks for getting in touch! I’m not able to reproduce this. Do you see any errors in the console when this happens? Can you disable all plugins and modules except CKEditor, and check if the issue persists?

Not seeing any errors, but are seeing warnings. Our blocks are created in the neo app.

Hi, thanks for the extra info! I can’t reproduce this with a CKEditor field nested in a Neo field either. The installHook.js file is not coming from Craft CMS, CKEditor or Neo, and the import map rule warning wouldn’t cause this.

Have you tried disabling all plugins and modules except CKEditor and Neo to see if the issue persists?
Also, it could be a good idea to test in another browser or disable any browser extensions you’re using and see if the issue persists.

I have the same issue and this is the console warning that I get when cloning/duplicating the block:
Input.js:1351 Tried to create a new block during the creation of another new block.

And this issue affects a block that has a minimum child blocks value of 1, if I clone/duplicate a block that has no minimum child block then there is no issue.

I can reproduce this issue with:

• Craft CMS 5.11.1
• CKEditor 5.7.0
• Neo 5.5.13

It occurs when duplicating a Neo block that contains a CKEditor field. The duplicated block temporarily renders two CKEditor instances. Saving and reloading the entry removes the duplicate.

The issue appears to be a race condition in Neo's block UI initialization. Block.initUi() is asynchronous, but Input.addBlock() did not await it. When duplicating blocks, multiple UI initializations could therefore overlap.

As a temporary workaround, we made Input.addBlock() asynchronous and serialized the initialization:

- addBlock (block, index = -1, level = 1, animate = null, createChildBlocks = true) {
+ async addBlock (block, index = -1, level = 1, animate = null, createChildBlocks = true) {

-   block.initUi()
+   await block.initUi()

The callers that create or duplicate blocks must await it as well:

- this.addBlock(newBlock, newIndex++, newBlock.getLevel(), false)
+ await this.addBlock(newBlock, newIndex++, newBlock.getLevel(), false)

- this.addBlock(block, e.index, e.level, e.createChildBlocks, e.createChildBlocks)
+ await this.addBlock(block, e.index, e.level, e.createChildBlocks, e.createChildBlocks)

I apply this as a Composer patch to spicyweb/craft-neo instead of modifying vendor/ directly. This resolved the duplicate CKEditor instances in my local tests.

The complete patch also updates Neo's compiled dist/scripts/input.js.
