Summary

Give provider endpoint resolution and CLI process ownership one pure, import-light resolver. An explicit inference URL attaches to its existing owner, including localhost; without one the launcher owns the separate colocated process. The independent managed query role retains its reserved route and precedence.

Retire the legacy hostname and disable-local selectors rather than keeping parallel routing/startup state machines. No model, thread, batch, cache or timeout value is hidden in a replacement constant.

Compatibility

  • Custom legacy hostname-only routes and disabled ordinary startup without an endpoint fail with value-free migration errors. Supply the full service URL to attach to an existing process.
  • Preserve a previous local-service request budget explicitly: legacy hostname routing defaulted to 30 seconds; an explicit URL selects the existing 2-second internal-service default. The supported timeout override remains available.
  • A canonical URL already shadows old selectors and remains authoritative. Default/blank local settings and context-specific ports are preserved.
  • Copy the default service set before changing a launch selection so one start cannot alter later starts.

Dependency

Stacked on #707. Incremental comparison: team/config-native-read-transport...team/config-inference-launch-plan. Merge the parent first.

Test Plan

  • Final combined affected gate: 1,120 passed, covering provider/CLI ownership, startup, query invariants, task rendering, deployment/image boundaries, readiness deadlines and census/env guards.
  • Real shell adapters use the actual resolver. A loopback HTTP service returns 503 then 200; backend exec waits for readiness.
  • Ruff lint/format and Pyright on all 17 changed Python files passed.
  • Built wheel works under isolated Python -I -S outside the checkout, with no site packages/model/server imports. Attached credentials stay out of CLI output.
  • Ignoring caller ownership fails all three explicit endpoint cases; original bytes restored. Independent concern reviews have no remaining findings.
  • Automatic current-head Codex P0/P1 and normal CI remain required. No production deployment, actual .env, remote DB or paid model call.

Review follow-up

  • Normalize the reserved query URL consistently with request routing.
  • Preserve remote and platform-managed storage snapshots while disabling incompatible SQLite field edits.
  • Production-build browser Save requests for Postgres, Supabase, managed storage and SQLite all validated and persisted using the real Config/DefaultConfigurator; no remote database connections.
  • Updated the active TestSprite deployment runbook and Docker ownership marker.
  • CI runner regression: isolate the fixed-pool mutation fixture from inherited worker settings and record the CI output protocol in the quoting guard. Relevant 70-test scope passed; an additional 50-test launch/shell/runner scope passed with inherited worker settings.
  • Scoped Ruff, Pyright, Biome lint, TypeScript and production docs build passed. TestSprite CLI is not installed/linked; no TestSprite run is claimed.
  • Current-head automatic Codex and normal CI are pending after these fixes. Deployment paths also require an approving human GitHub review under the protected-path workflow.

Follow-up: use one import-light shared legacy boolean parser, with the old server import retained as an export of the same function. 67 focused tests pass, including real isolated -I -S launch and compatibility export checks. The built wheel also launches without site packages or server imports. Ruff checks six changed Python files across the parent stack; configured runtime Pyright reports zero errors. Independent concern review found no actionable issues. New-head normal CI and automatic Codex review remain required.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features

    • Durable-learning polling and lease durations can now be configured, with defaults of 2 and 300 seconds.
    • Audit-event deletion batch size is configurable, defaulting to 500.
    • Inference can connect to an explicitly configured embedding endpoint or start a local service when no endpoint is set.
    • Configuration editing better preserves existing settings, including Azure OpenAI options and non-SQLite storage settings.
  • Bug Fixes

    • Invalid stored configurations now fail with clearer errors, and sensitive values are not included in those errors.
    • Legacy extraction presets are applied when loading stored configurations.

📝 Walkthrough

The changes add shared inference launch planning, configurable durable-learning timing, stricter stored-configuration validation, and configuration-editor updates that preserve fetched settings during edits.

Changes: Inference launch and endpoint ownership

Layer / File(s) Summary
Launch planning and endpoint resolution
reflexio/inference_launch.py, tests/test_inference_launch.py
The new planner resolves endpoints and selects attached, colocated, or query modes. Tests cover URL normalization, legacy settings, launch modes, and query endpoints.
CLI and provider integration
reflexio/cli/run_services.py, reflexio/server/llm/providers/embedding_service_provider.py, reflexio/cli/README.md, developer.md
CLI startup uses the launch mode to decide whether to start a local service. The provider uses the shared endpoint resolver. Documentation describes endpoint and process ownership.
Shared environment parser
reflexio/env_utils.py, reflexio/server/env_utils.py, tests/server/test_env_utils.py, README.md
A shared truth-value parser is added and re-exported by the server module. Tests check the shared function identity. The README documents the parser and compatibility export.

Durable-learning timing

Layer / File(s) Summary
Timing resolution and validation
reflexio/durable_learning_policy.py, .env.example, developer.md
Poll and lease settings use defaults of 2 and 300 seconds. The resolver validates configured values and the documentation describes their bounds.
Scheduler use of resolved timings
reflexio/server/services/durable_learning/scheduler.py, tests/conftest.py, tests/server/services/durable_learning/test_scheduler.py
The scheduler uses resolved poll and lease values. Tests configure these values through environment settings and check lease propagation to extraction claims.
Timing validation coverage
tests/test_durable_learning_policy.py
Tests cover defaults, custom values, supplied mappings, invalid inputs, and accepted limits.

Stored configuration compatibility and validation

Layer / File(s) Summary
Stored-configuration error handling
reflexio/config_migration.py, reflexio/models/config_schema.py, reflexio/cli/bootstrap_config.py, reflexio/server/services/configurator/local_file_config_storage.py, tests/models/test_storage_config_union.py, tests/server/services/configurator/test_config_storage_contract.py
StoredConfigurationError is used for sanitized stored-config validation failures and propagated through local-file and CLI loading. Tests check error propagation and preservation of stored files on invalid input.
Stored schema compatibility
reflexio/models/config_schema.py, tests/models/test_extraction_geometry.py, tests/models/test_storage_config_union.py, developer.md
Legacy extraction presets migrate into geometry fields. Obsolete Supabase reader fields are discarded. Tests cover preset precedence, input preservation, and storage round trips.
Audit deletion batch policy
reflexio/housekeeping_policy.py, reflexio/models/config_schema.py, tests/models/test_housekeeping_policy.py, tests/server/services/configurator/test_config_storage_contract.py, developer.md
The audit deletion batch limit is retained as a validated setting with a default of 500 and a positive int32 range. Cleanup and storage tests cover accepted values, rejected values, and round trips.
Extraction preset configuration patches
reflexio/server/services/configurator/base_configurator.py, tests/models/test_extraction_geometry.py
Preset updates use a prepared configuration patch rather than direct assignment to a model field. Tests cover loading and saving configurations that contain legacy presets.

Configuration editor preservation

Layer / File(s) Summary
Configuration hydration and serialization
docs/lib/config-schema.ts, docs/components/configure/config-editor.tsx, docs/scripts/test-correlation.mjs
The editor uses shared hydration and serialization. Serialization preserves additional LLM and storage properties, with tests for round trips and explicit clears.
Editor updates that preserve existing fields
docs/components/configure/sections.tsx
Storage-path edits preserve existing SQLite settings and are disabled for non-editable storage. OpenAI key edits preserve other fields, and tool cards keep stable identities across updates.

Allow the historical default host 127.0.0.1.

The legacy provider defaults REFLEXIO_EMBEDDING_DAEMON_HOST to 127.0.0.1. The current resolver rejects this value before selecting the colocated launch plan. Reject custom hosts, but preserve the historical default.
