One conflict resolved in communicator.py (a formatting-only reflow of _cuda_allgather_object, which this branch had already rewritten): kept the branch's version. The new *_pg_by_name ops live in the C++ thop library, so the Python side needs a wheel built from this tree; a python-only overlay over an older wheel cannot serve these paths. Squash of the piecewise-CUDA-graph follow-ups on top of 775a069deb. 1. Unwrap torch.compile before refit loads weights ------------------------------------------------------------------ torch.compile wraps a submodule in an OptimizedModule whose child is _orig_mod, so every parameter path under the compiled scope gains "._orig_mod." -- e.g. llm.model._orig_mod.embed_tokens.weight where the checkpoint key is llm.model.embed_tokens.weight. load_weights matches checkpoint tensors by dotted path (filter_weights is a key.startswith over named_modules() paths) and the RL refit calls it with allow_partial_loading=True, so the entire compiled subtree is silently skipped and keeps its pre-refit weights. Training starts the engine on dummy weights, so the engine then generates from dummy weights: degenerate repetition, no error raised anywhere, and a flat reward curve. release_piecewise_cuda_graphs_for_refit() already performed the required unwrap, but it and recapture_piecewise_cuda_graphs_after_refit() were gated on _torch_compile_piecewise_cuda_graph rather than on _torch_compile_enabled. TorchCompileConfig() -- compile on, piecewise off, which is the default shape of that config -- therefore got no refit lifecycle at all. Both now gate on torch.compile; the piecewise-specific work stays behind the piecewise check inside. Measured on a full Qwen3.5 397B TP8/MEP8 engine against a real-weight reference that never refits: first-token logit cosine 0.13 -> 0.9998, degenerate repetition -> text identical to the reference. Verified for BF16 and MXFP8 and across three consecutive refit cycles. Bisecting the lifecycle shows only the unwrap is load bearing. torch.compiler.reset(), the piecewise recapture, and clearing the piecewise captures are all unnecessary -- refit moves 0 of 1405 parameters, buffers and plain tensor attributes, so the captures stay valid. The lifecycle is therefore unwrap -> load -> re-wrap and nothing else: ~5 s against ~300 s of weight streaming, with 976 piecewise CUDA graphs measured still live after a refit, so PWCG stays hot instead of falling cold. The bisect measurements are recorded in a comment above the hooks for anyone tempted to add the dropped steps back. ModelLoader.reload() now raises when a compile wrapper is still installed. It is the chokepoint every refit path shares, including NeMo-RL's NcclExtension, which never calls the TensorRT-LLM refit lifecycle, so this class of silent no-op refit now fails loudly instead of training on stale weights. 2. Rubin PCG named-collective warmup ------------------------------------------------------------------ Warm the by-name ProcessGroup collectives, and the NCCL communicator behind them, before the piecewise capture rather than inside it. 3. MXFP8 refit CUDA graph recapture ------------------------------------------------------------------ Release and rebuild the ordinary decode CUDA graphs alongside the piecewise ones across a refit, and keep the TP8 refit diagnostics usable without the speculative-decoding lifecycle. tests ------------------------------------------------------------------ test_refit_compile_isolation.py adds the matrix this was diagnosed with. Its reference loads real weights and never refits, so refit defects cannot cancel the way they do in a refit-vs-refit comparison, and it compares first-generated-token logits over the full vocabulary rather than averaging top-k overlap over a free-running continuation, which amplifies a single flipped token into an apparent 50% failure. Naming: the two lifecycle hooks are renamed to say what they do -- release_piecewise_cuda_graphs_for_refit -> unwrap_compiled_model_for_refit and recapture_piecewise_cuda_graphs_after_refit -> restore_compiled_model_after_refit. The load-bearing step is unwrapping/restoring the torch.compile wrapper; the piecewise work is conditional and, under the default mode, does not happen at all. The old names remain as aliases because NeMo-RL probes them with getattr() and falls back to doing nothing, so a bare rename would silently skip the unwrap and reintroduce the corruption. restore_compiled_model_after_refit ran a full gc.collect() after re-installing the compile wrapper. On a Qwen3.5 397B aggregated engine that collection is the whole 2.3-2.6 s "restore" phase of every refit (0.00 s without it), all of it generation-idle time inside the refit bubble. Nothing needs it: the replaced OptimizedModule is released by reference count, the re-wrap reuses the cached compiled artifact and moves no tensor, and the piecewise CUDA graphs stay live. Drop the call; the restore unit test now fails if it comes back. torch.compile leaves an OptimizedModule in the module tree whose child is `_orig_mod`, so every path under the compiled scope reads `model._orig_mod.layers.N...` in named_modules() while checkpoint keys read `model.layers.N...`. The loaders matched by dotted path, so a reload with allow_partial_loading=True into a compiled model matched nothing under the wrapper and silently kept the pre-refit weights; reload() guarded against that with _assert_no_compile_wrapper_in_paths and every refit caller had to unwrap first. Strip the wrapper component from the module path inside both loader walks (strip_torch_compile_wrapper) so a compiled model loads exactly like an eager one, and remove the guard that is no longer needed. The refit lifecycle hooks on the engine keep unwrapping for callers that key their own module maps by named_modules() path; the unwrap is two attribute writes, the loader no longer depends on it. Unit tests cover the path normalization and a load through a compile wrapper. …ir own loader Stripping `_orig_mod` in the generic loaders only covers models that load through them. A model with its own load_weights walk over named_modules() (GLM, DeepSeek-V3/V4, gpt-oss, MiniMax-M3, ...) still matches by raw path, so dropping the reload() guard outright would have let a partial reload into such a compiled model silently keep its old weights again. reload() now checks the wrapper only when the model's load_weights is not known to tolerate it: inheriting DecoderModelForCausalLM.load_weights, or a class-level load_weights_strips_compile_wrapper = True for overrides that merely pre-process and delegate (Qwen3Next opts in). The TLLM_REFIT_SKIP_WRAPPER_CHECK escape hatch is back as well. …agg transfer-bound check On the C++ LlmRequest binding ``is_generation_only_request`` and ``is_context_only_request`` are read-only properties (def_prop_ro), while the Python wrapper still exposes ``is_generation_only_request`` as a method. ``_is_disagg_transfer_bound`` called the former as a method, so the first in-flight weight refit on a disaggregated generation engine with active requests failed on every rank with "'bool' object is not callable" (the warmup refit runs with no active requests and never reached the call; aggregated engines have no transceiver and skip the branch). 🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win
Reject malformed TLLM_MNNVL_ONESHOT_THRESHOLD_BYTES values.
std::strtoull returns 0 for a non-numeric value such as "1MB". The C++ side then always selects two-shot. Python int(...) in ops.py raises on the same value. If the input is partially numeric, the two sides can also parse different values. The workspace sizing in get_required_workspace_size then disagrees with the kernel the C++ side selects. Check endptr and fall back to the default when the input is invalid, or reject it with TORCH_CHECK.

Pass the TP rank, not the global rank, to allreduce_pg_by_name.
allreduce_pg looks up rank in group (mapping.tp_group, which holds global ranks), so the global rank is correct here. The warmup at Line 130 passes mapping.tp_rank, which is a group-local index. In the native warmup, group.find(rank) searches global ranks. When TP groups do not start at rank 0, for example with PP>1 or CP>1, tp_rank is not found in the group. The warmup then raises "Rank not found in ProcessGroup" during model construction. Pass mapping.rank in the warmup.

Apply the device_count stride only when MPI is disabled.
size == 1 is also true for a normal single-process MPI run. In that run, local_mpi_rank() is 0 and torch.cuda.device_count() can be greater than 1. The new code then sets size to the device count, and the rank prefetches only file_names[0::N]. Before this change, the rank prefetched every file. That is a prefetch regression on single-GPU-process hosts that have several GPUs. The outputs stay correct. Put the remap behind mpi_disabled().

🩺 Stability & Availability | 🟠 Major | 🏗️ Heavy lift
Make the control-request firing decision agree across ranks before running _retire_inflight_batch_for_control. Under attention DP the drain gate is rank-local.
The drain gate at Line 5028 reads len(self.active_requests). Under attention DP, active_requests is per-rank. With drain=True, one DP rank can drain earlier than its peers, pass the gate and call _retire_inflight_batch_for_control().
Under ADP that function issues TP gathers through these calls:
_emit_first_token_responsesor_enqueue_responses([])_flush_pending_transfer_responses_handle_responsesor_enqueue_responses([])
The peers that are still draining do not enter these gathers. They proceed to _schedule and to the tp_allgather_int64 in _can_queue, so the gathers pair with different collectives. The result is a desync or a hang, which _enqueue_responses reports as "TP collective desync".
Before this change, a rank that passed the gate only blocked on control_action_done and issued no collective, so the divergence was harmless. The docstring claims "a point every rank reaches in the same iteration", but that holds only for drain=False.
To fix this:
- Compute local readiness on every rank while
control_requestsis non-empty.control_requestsis replicated by the broadcast. - Reduce the readiness over the TP group, for example
tp_allreduce(int(not ready), op=ReduceOp.MAX)under ADP. - Fire, and retire the in-flight batch, only when all ranks are ready.

Gate these tests on Blackwell or on the CUTLASS op, not only on CUDA.
requires_cuda checks only torch.cuda.is_available(). On a pre-Blackwell GPU, use_cutlass is False and the tests run the reference path. On that path the staging buffer and the deferred swizzle never run, so the tests cannot detect a regression in the CUTLASS staging code they target. Add a skip such as skip_pre_blackwell_unittest, or skip when _mxfp8_cutlass_op_available() is False. Also confirm that this new file appears in a test-db list, for example l0_b200.yml. The tests guideline says a CI test that no list references "is never collected".

Remove the personal cluster path from the default ARTIFACT_DIR.
The default is /lustre/fsw/coreai_mlperf_training/erinh/pcg-test/artifacts. This exposes an internal filesystem layout and a user name in the repository. On any other machine, _save calls os.makedirs on that path. The call fails or writes into another user's tree. The report and decode tests also read artifacts from that path, so they can pick up results from someone else's run.
Default to a per-run temporary directory and keep the environment override.

Make test_refit_isolation_report fail when it cannot judge the rows.
The report asserts only when the "R0p" table exists. In MXFP8 mode, _ENGINES drops eager_real, so R0p never exists and the test always passes. The test also passes when R0p was not built in this session. Rows B and C can show pos0_cosine=0.13 and the test still passes.
The test also depends on test order and on artifacts left from earlier runs in ARTIFACT_DIR. A stale C.pt from an earlier commit is compared as if it were current.
Apply a fixed cosine floor in all modes, for example pos0_cosine < 0.9. Use the noise-floor threshold only as an addition when R0p is present. Also record a run identifier in each artifact and skip artifacts that do not match it.
As per path instructions: "Tests that can silently pass, including ... always-true conditions" and "order dependence ... external-state dependence".
