This repository contains Emerson-authored deployment and integration examples for an open-source application that can run on DeltaV Edge. The application is not part of DeltaV Edge, is not required for its operation, and does not modify its functionality. All repository contents are provided as examples only. Users are responsible for securing, validating, testing, and maintaining configurations before production use.
PostgreSQL is an optional third-party relational database platform.
PostgreSQL may be used by customers or optional applications to store, manage, query, and analyze data made available through supported DeltaV Edge integrations and connected data sources.
PostgreSQL is not part of the DeltaV Edge architecture, is not required for DeltaV Edge operation, and does not participate in DeltaV Edge platform operations.
PostgreSQL is a powerful open-source relational database management system designed for reliability, scalability, extensibility, and standards compliance.
PostgreSQL provides capabilities for structured data storage, querying, indexing, transaction processing, analytics, and application data management across a wide range of use cases.
When used alongside DeltaV Edge, PostgreSQL can serve as an optional data storage platform that enables applications, analytics solutions, reporting tools, and other services to store and manage operational data made available through supported DeltaV Edge integrations and connected data sources.
- ACID Compliance: Ensures reliable transactions.
- Extensibility: Supports custom functions, data types, and extensions.
- Advanced Data Types: Includes support for JSON, XML, and arrays.
- Full-Text Search: Built-in full-text search capabilities.
- Concurrency Control: Efficient handling of concurrent transactions.
- You must have both PostgreSQL installed via the Edge Orchestration Marketplace. PgAdmin is optional but is strongly suggested given the lack of console access to containers in the Edge Orchestration.
- A volume instance of at least 10GB is ideal for larger scale usage.
- If setting up with PgAdmin, must be setup within the same network (eth port).

-
Deploy the application from the marketplace. It is intended to run as a background service and uses port
5432for database connections. -
Security Configuration: PostgreSQL credentials must be configured during deployment via environment variables:
POSTGRES_PASSWORD- Set a secure password for the postgres userPOSTGRES_USER- (Optional) Configure a custom username if needed
Important: For production deployments, always use strong, unique passwords and change any temporary credentials immediately after first use.
-
The IP address assigned to the PostgreSQL container can be found in the Network tab of the app instance in the Edge Orchestration interface.

-
Use PgAdmin or another PostgreSQL client to connect to and manage the database. The connection requires:
- Host:
<postgres_container_ip>(obtain from Network tab) - Port:
5432 - Database:
postgres(default maintenance database) - Username: As configured during deployment
- Password: As configured during deployment
- Host:
- Never use default or weak passwords in production environments
- Supply credentials via environment variables or secure configuration management
- Restrict network access to authorized clients only
- Regularly backup your databases
- Keep PostgreSQL updated to the latest stable version
- Review connection logs periodically for unauthorized access attempts
PostgreSQL is commonly used as a database for a number of web applications. Keep posted on this list as more marketplace apps that are supported by PostgreSQL are added.
