I'm frustrated with the GitHub Copilot desktop app. In my experience, it is behind OpenAI's Codex and Anthropic's Claude Code in everyday usability, functionality, and reliability. Competing tools keep adding capabilities, including recent code modification features, while basic problems in Copilot remain unresolved.
Sidebar grouping bugs
When I group sessions by project and use a local folder rather than an isolated worktree, changing branches or creating a PR and updating the branch causes the sidebar to regroup and rearrange chats unexpectedly. The organization breaks, making existing conversations hard to find.
Grouping by date starts out working, but after I complete some chats, the grouping and ordering become confusing again. Completing one chat should not disrupt the organization of the remaining chats.
I expect both grouping modes to stay predictable as branches change and sessions are completed.
Missing workflow features
Feedback and issue follow-through
I have already filed GitHub issues and received no response. From a user's perspective, those reports appear neglected. Although this repository provides a reporting channel, I have not found an effective feedback loop that tells me whether a report has been acknowledged, triaged, or scheduled for a fix.
I'd like the team to prioritize sidebar stability, address these workflow gaps, and provide clearer responses and status updates on user reports. Is there a recommended way to get existing reports triaged, and which of these gaps are on the roadmap?
