Runestone Issue: WebWorK doesn't seem to be updating scores or restoring answers

I got a report from an instructor testing out active-prelude that the doenet preview seems to be working great, but the webwork exercises don't seem to be saving scores or restoring answers, even though the answer checking is working.

I have now tested this in several other courses, based on different books including ac-single and matrixcalculations, and building against different webwork servers. I can't get any webwork in any book to actually save scores or restore answers as a student. As an instructor, it seems to work just fine. I've tested this behavior as an instructor and student each one in Chrome and Firefox. Instructor works fine in both browsers, different accounts, but student does not update score or restore work.

I'm seeing loads of answers saved to the database including for safranskistudent.

It is working on my dev machine for both students and instructors (saving and restoring). There is no reason that it would matter whether you are an instructor or a student as far as saving and restoring answers goes.

Is it only misbehaving from the assignment page?

I also just tried the basic velocity question in ac-single where I am not an instructor and it saved and restored.

I am the instructor that Chrissy referred to. It seems to be misbehaving only on the assignments page. If I click "Show this question in the book" and do the problem there, it saves.
Probably of note: There is a "Submit" button when I go to the question in the book. From the assignments page, there is only a "Check responses" button.

I just tried again, and you're right - the issue appears to be only from the assignment page. In-context it saved and restored, and then when I returned to the assignment page, the score showed and the answer restored.

Ooh, good catch, Jack! Definitely something up with that. And then it likely wasn't the difference between being an instructor or student but my behavior as an instructor or student that was different.

If you go to your course settings page and uncheck the box for use pretext based student pages I'm curious to know if that fixes it.

Great, that a good workaround @ascholerChemeketa and I will have to work out whats missing in the new template.

• eBookConfig.username is not getting set in the template which is causing webwork to think the user is not logged in. @ascholerChemeketa

It may be as simple as doAssignment.py sending user and the PreTeXt templates expecting user_id
